  • Company has signed a contract with Abitibi Geophysics Ltd of Thunder Bay
  • For drone magnetic survey and a 3D induced polarization orientation survey over the Kenbridge Nickel-Copper-Cobalt deposit

Toronto, Ontario – Tartisan Nickel Corp. (CSE: TN, FSE: A2DPCM) (“Tartisan”, or the “Company”)  is pleased to announce that the Company has signed a contract with Abitibi Geophysics Ltd (“Abitibi”) of Thunder Bay, Ontario for a drone magnetic survey and a 3D induced polarization orientation survey over the Kenbridge Nickel-Copper-Cobalt deposit near Kenora, Ontario. Contracted works will commence once lines have been cut and break-up has advanced sufficiently to allow surface access to the Kenbridge site.

Abitibi will provide an Aerovision™ drone magnetometer survey over approximately 70% of the total Kenbridge lands and is a follow up to the VTEM survey conducted by the previous owners in 2008. This survey delineated a strong magnetic feature with a 2-km strike length with a prominent deep-seated 200m long conductive anomaly located along the flank of the magnetic anomaly. The prospective target is located some 2.5km to the northeast of the Kenbridge deposit, situated along the same structural trend of the Kenbridge intrusion. The drone survey automatically corrects for objects of varying height (building on site; tall trees) allowing for consistent data over the 14.73 square km survey area. A total of 338.5 line-km will be flown with lines at 50m spacing.

A 5-line 10-km Induced Polarization Survey over the Kenbridge Deposit is planned with IPower 3D™ using a 3D electrode array measuring chargeability on multi-directional dipoles and yielding up to approximately a 600m depth of investigation, sufficient for proving mineralization continuity down to the bottom of the deposit as defined by previous operators. If successful, this survey will be applied to the 2-km magnetic anomaly as previously described to test for deep-seated mineralization. This survey is expected in the latter part of 2018.

Tartisan Nickel CEO Mr. Mark Appleby noted, “The drone magnetometer survey and the deep IP survey are modern exploration tools that will give us a very good idea of the best areas for follow up exploration in the Kenbridge camp.”

The drone magnetic survey will be integrated with a LIDAR survey at 1m contour intervals to better focus future exploration and definition efforts.

The Kenbridge Deposit hosts measured and indicated resources of 7.139 million tonnes of 0.62% nickel; 0.33% copper; and 0.016% cobalt; with inferred resources of 0.118 million tonnes of 1.38% nickel; 0.88% copper; and 0.003% cobalt. In total a contained nickel resource of 97.8 million pounds of nickel and 47 million pounds of copper has been defined by previous operators to data. The Kenbridge deposit is equipped with a 623m shaft and two levels and has never been mined. Mineralization is open at depth and along strike.

Move to #EVs to be ‘dramatic’ for metals: Penny #PGM #Nickel $TN.ca $NAM.ca

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 4:45 PM on Thursday, April 5th, 2018
  • Penny predicts a dramatic shift in commodity demand patterns as the electrification of the global economy continues to boost demand for the metals that Norilsk produces, particularly nickel and cobalt
  • Penny noted that hybrid battery vehicles in the United States currently account for 9% of the market, with annual growth of 18%; battery EVs have around 3% market share but growth of 25%
  • Fuel cell EVs represent just 1% of the market but are growing at an annual pace of 41%

Andrea Hotter
[email protected]

NEW YORK — Norilsk Nickel chairman Gareth Penny gave his predictions for electric and hybrid vehicle growth and how the company will move to maximize the value of its products in an interview with Andrea Hotter in the April 2018 issue of Metal Market Magazine.

Penny predicts a dramatic shift in commodity demand patterns as the electrification of the global economy continues to boost demand for the metals that Norilsk produces, particularly nickel and cobalt.

“Like most of these things, the move to [electric vehicles] will take longer than people think, but when the time arrives it’ll be even more dramatic,” he said.

Penny noted that hybrid battery vehicles in the United States currently account for 9% of the market, with annual growth of 18%; battery EVs have around 3% market share but growth of 25%. Fuel cell EVs represent just 1% of the market but are growing at an annual pace of 41%.

Although Norilsk is synonymous with nickel production, roughly 27% of the company’s revenue actually comes from the metal compared with 30% from palladium. With around 8% of Norilsk’s revenue coming from platinum, more than one-third of its earnings come from platinum group metals.

Penny remains unperturbed about the potential loss of demand for palladium  – his top commodity pick currently despite his self-confessed love for diamonds – due to the elimination of catalytic converters as the world electrifies its cars. This is largely because he expects the biggest absolute growth in the next 10 years to be in hybrid vehicles.

“You cannot make a diesel engine a hybrid as you need a very light engine, which is by definition a petrol engine. Palladium is the catalytic converter of choice for petrol engines, while platinum is for diesel,” he said. “We are confident that in the next 10 years, demand for palladium in hybrid vehicles is going to grow very rapidly and probably outstrip the absolute growth of battery and fuel cell EVs.”

Norilsk might even get involved in new areas of the battery production chain, Penny said, with a joint venture its likely method of entry.

“Norilsk will definitely look at some form of partnership at different levels in the industry in order to maximize the value of its product. That’s something we’re actively considering at the moment,” he said. “I don’t know about developing batteries, but we’re looking very carefully at working with European chemical company BASF, with whom we’ve had relationships before.”

Rising Chinese imports push #Copper higher $LBSR $TTC.ca

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 9:08 AM on Tuesday, February 27th, 2018

  • Price of copper rose on Monday as higher imports to China and strong economic data cemented expectations of solid demand from the world’s biggest metals consumer
  • Rising global stock markets also fuelled appetite for riskier assets including metals, said Societe Generale analyst Robin Bhar
  • Price of copper, used in power and construction, surged last year on expectations that lower scrap imports to China would increase demand for refined metal

The price of copper rose on Monday as higher imports to China and strong economic data cemented expectations of solid demand from the world’s biggest metals consumer. Rising global stock markets also fuelled appetite for riskier assets including metals, said Societe Generale analyst Robin Bhar.

“Both macro and micro factors are good,” he said. Benchmark three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange closed 0.2 percent up at $7,110 a tonne, not farom a four-year high of $7,312.50 touched in January.

Copper imports to China rose 13 percent from December to 314,525 tonnes in January, while refined nickel imports doubled to 26,691 tonnes and refined zinc imports surged by 287 percent to 67,111 tonnes. Prices of nickel and zinc, used in the steel industry, also rose on the strong import data and a surge in Chinese steel futures after reports that China’s top steelmaking city will extend production curbs.

Nickel finished 1.2 percent up at $13,925 a tonne, close to three-year highs, and zinc ended near its highest since 2007 after gaining 0.8 percent to $3,531.50. Chinese imports of scrap metal, meanwhile, fell to the lowest level in nearly two years in January after restrictions were introduced. Scrap copper imports were down 28 percent year on year.

The price of copper, used in power and construction, surged last year on expectations that lower scrap imports to China would increase demand for refined metal. Robust economic data reinforced expectations of strong demand for metals. Prices for new homes rose in January and a poll showed that China’s manufacturing sector is expected to register another month of relatively solid growth in February.

Bets on higher copper prices increased on the COMEX exchange, with funds’ net long position rising for the first time this year in the week to February 20. LME aluminium finished down 0.1 percent at $2,138 a tonne but still within sight of a six-year high of $2,290.50 touched in January.

“With no apparent shortage of supply, we expect prices to ease back in 2018,” Capital Economics analyst Simona Gambarini said in a note. SUPPLY: Global primary production rose in January, according to the International Aluminium Institute. There was also an increase in exports of semi-processed aluminium products from China, the world’s largest producer. And in the United States a smelter was poised to restart idled production if Washington curbs imports. LME lead closed 1.9 percent up at $2,580 and tin finished down 0.1 percent at $21,625.

Tartisan Resources Corp. $TTC.ca Provides “Next Steps” For #Nickel Assets

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 8:36 AM on Monday, February 5th, 2018

Tartisan logo copy

  • Provide the next steps for the Company’s newly acquired nickel assets.
  • Kenbridge nickel-copper-cobalt project hosts an Indicated Resource of 3.7 MM tonnes at 0.64% nickel and 0.34% copper in a mineralized body with drilled dimensions of 250m along strike and to a depth of 823m

Toronto, Ontario – Tartisan Resources Corp. (CSE: TTC, FSE: 8TA) (“Tartisan”, or the “Company”) is pleased to provide the next steps for the Company’s newly acquired nickel assets.

Tartisan’s principal assets now include the Kenbridge Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Project near Kenora, Ontario and the Alexo-Kelex Nickel Project near Timmins, Ontario. These nickel assets join the Company’s significant equity holding in Eloro Resources Ltd. (Gold-Silver), the Don Pancho (Zinc-Lead-Silver-Manganese) Project and the Ichuna (Copper-Silver) Project located in Peru.

The Kenbridge nickel-copper-cobalt project hosts an Indicated Resource of 3.7 MM tonnes at 0.64% nickel and 0.34% copper in a mineralized body with drilled dimensions of 250m along strike and to a depth of 823m.  A Preliminary Economic Assessment (“PEA”) filed by Canadian Arrow Mines Limited in 2008 suggests a production solution of 2,800 tonnes per day from surface and underground using the existing 623m four-compartment shaft.

The Tartisan development strategy for the Kenbridge Project is initially three-pronged:

  • First, the Company has initiated discussions with geophysical contractors for a detailed geophysical survey of the Kenbridge Project with the goal of determining if further mineralization exists along strike; down dip; or down plunge.
  • Second, the Company is assimilating all the data from Canadian Arrow Mines Limited with the goal of understanding the constraints on the existing Indicated Resource at different modeling parameters within a block model of the project.
  • Third, the Company has initiated discussions with environmental consultants on starting the long-term baseline environmental surveys that would be required for any developmental solution for the Kenbridge Project in the future.

“We are accelerating the understanding of the Kenbridge Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Project”, said Tartisan CEO Mark Appleby, “because we believe that the PEA filed in 2008 mitigates the bulk of discovery risk and much of the developmental risk such that we want to ensure that a fast-track to development is in place for both technical endeavor and regulatory permitting.”

“For the Alexo-Kelex Nickel Project, Tartisan is assimilating the geological and geophysical data to determine whether a continuation of the small volume bulk sample mining of the Alexo Sector and the Kelex Sector, started by Canadian Arrow Mines Limited is feasible technically, and within relevant regulations as regards to bulk sampling and environmental remediation of past works”.

Canadian Arrow Mines Limited shipped about 30,000 tonnes of 1.3% nickel to a local mill for metallurgical analysis and processing in 2004 to 2005 from the Alexo-Kelex Nickel Project.

Additionally, at the Don Pancho Zinc-Lead-Silver-Manganese Project in Peru, negotiations are ongoing with consultants that specialize in community relations and environmental compliance as the Company gears up for a bulk sample and surface drilling program at Don Pancho.

Tartisan Resources Corp. common shares are listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE:TTC, FSE 8TA). Currently, there are 93,308,550 shares outstanding (105,142,594 fully diluted). Tartisan Resources is a member of the CSE Composite Index.
