Mayor Miller Of Toronto Thinks Americans Will Listen To His Handgun Demands. This Is Not April 1st.

Posted by AGORACOM at 8:13 PM on Monday, November 26th, 2007

I’ve just watched Toronto’s Mayor Miller on the evening news following 3 more gun murders this weekend and feel I have to act on behalf of all citizens who are insulted by his “it’s time to lobby the US government” solution.

I just sent the message below to his office via e-mail, as well as, John Oakley of AM 640.

UPDATE #1 (November 27, 2007): The Mayor’s office did not respond. John Oakley, on the other hand, read my letter on air this morning.

UPDATE #2 (June 14, 2008): The blood shed has now extended beyond his “constituency”. 2008 has turned into Toronto The Violent, including the murder of Oliver Martin, one of my own colleagues.

Regards,
George Tsiolis
A man of average intelligence but plenty of common sense.

=======

I neither own a gun, nor support gun ownership beyond hunting purposes.

However, I am intelligent enough to know that the Second Amendment to the US Constitution declares the individual right of citizens to keep and bear arms. If his answer to Toronto gun-related murders is to change US laws, then the man is truly an idiot.

Or is he?

Given the fact he is a lawyer, I don’t believe for a minute that he actually believes in his solution. If Bill Clinton and the Democratic Party could not make a meaningful dent in US gun regulation (see “Lasting Effects” section), he knows full well that a Mayor from Toronto has no chance of even getting standing on the issue. If he gets a janitor in Washington to hear him out, I’ll pay for his haircuts in 2008.

His US solution is nothing more than a smoke screen to avoid dealing with the real problems surrounding his constituency – and he knows it. It isn’t fooling anyone other than his voter base … and it isn’t hurting anyone other than them.

Rather than providing solutions that get tough on crime (i.e. hiring more police officers and arming them with the means to battle criminals) – solutions that would upset his voter base – he prefers to talk a big game and blame an easy but untouchable target.

Shame on him for providing his supporters with phantom solutions as they die in the streets. They deserve more from the man they elected mayor. At the very least, they deserve a “solution” with at least as good a chance as a 6/49 lottery ticket.

Yours truly,
George Tsiolis, LL.B

Canadian Shield Resources Intersects 107 Metres Grading 99.1 g/t Of Silver Equivalent

Posted by AGORACOM at 10:40 AM on Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Good morning to you all. Taking into full account that Canadian Shield (CSP: TSXV) is an AGORACOM client and, therefore, you should assume that we are massively conflicted, we believe the news of out of the Company this morning is significant. Canadian Shield was halted on Wednesday pending this news. I’ve included the highlights below but you should read the press release in its entirety here.

Canadian Shield was trading at .19 when it was halted, for a market cap of approximately $10,000,000. The news hit the wires around 10:12 AM, so expect the halt to remain for anywhere between 30 – 60 minutes.

In the meantime, here are the highlights:

Canadian Shield Resources Inc. (TSX V:CSP)

INTERSECTS 107 METRES GRADING 99.1 g/t SILVER EQUIVALENT AT LA ESTRELLA

results from the Phase 1 drill program recently completed at the La Estrella Gold-Silver-Copper Property located in the Department of Huancavelica, central Peru.

HIGHLIGHTS

Drill hole RC-E10 intersected 107 metres of 77.7 grams per tonne (g/t) silver and 0.39 g/t gold, a Silver Equivalent (AgEq) grade of 99.1 g/t or 1.81 g/t Gold Equivalent (AuEq) from 30 to 137 metres depth.

o High Grade Interval includes 21 metres grading 0.62 g/t gold, 216.6 g/t silver, or 250 g/t Silver Equivalent from 38 to 59 metres depth. Within this high grade zone, grades range from 36 g/t to 913 g/t silver, and 0.211 g/t to 1.27 g/t gold from individual one (1)metre sample intervals.

In Drill Hole RC-E11, the last 19 metres of that hole ended in 0.93 g/t gold, 58.8 g/t Silver or

2 g/t Gold Equivalent (AuEq) or 109.5 g/t Silver Equivalent (AgEq). Grades range from 0.347 g/t to 1.77 g/t gold and from 17.8 g/t to 244 g/t silver over this uniformly mineralized interval to the bottom of the hole. RC-E11 was stopped at 163 metres due to difficult ground conditions.

table summarizes drill results and displays continuity and multiplicity of higher-grade mineralized zones contained within a broad zone of disseminated, low-grade mineralization. Significant mineralization was encountered in 10 of the 11 drill holes

“Drill results from our first phase of drilling on the property are very exciting and we have effectively tested targets based on a multi-disciplinary approach. Combining our results with those from previous drilling by Bear Creek, we see indications of the presence of a major scale gold-silver-base metal system. We will work towards synthesizing all data available to derive a sound geologic model that will guide the next round of drilling on the property.” said Phil Anderson, Canadian Shield’s VP Exploration.

George

Google Trends Shows Washington Is Worried About A Recession – Even If They Say They Aren’t.

Posted by AGORACOM at 9:22 PM on Thursday, November 15th, 2007

(Click On The Image At Any Time To See A Clearer Version)

If actions speak louder than words, then the search actions of Washington are speaking several decibels above the party line “don’t worry be happy”. Specifically, using Google Trends, I compared the 2007 trends of two specific search terms (which are graphically displayed above):

  • Recession (Blue Line)
  • Gold Price (Orange Line)

I ran the trend for searches strictly taking place in the United States. The results clearly tell us two things:

First, fear of a recession amongst Americans is clearly rising – and rising fast. After calming down in July, “recession” has rapidly become a matter on the minds of Americans. You don’t search for recession unless you are worried about it, so clearly Americans are worried.

On that note, look at the hockey stick growth in searches for gold price. After remaining relatively flat for the entire year, it took off beginning in September. You can argue this is strictly a function of the higher price of gold but gold has made several moves in the past year without little more than a blip in increased searches. Why now?

Second, when you look at the cities most responsible for these searches, Washington ranks #1. Here is what is even more telling, when looking at these searches by region, 3 of the top 5 regions are:

  1. District of Columbia (DC) #1
  2. Maryland #2
  3. Virginia #5

Unless these regions have become the financial powerhouses of the country, it is clear as day that the US government (politicians, aides, committees, etc.) have rapidly become interested in both a recession and the price of gold.

Conclusion – The US government is telling us not to worry, then heading back to their computers and singing searching a different tune.

Actions speak louder than words.

Regards,
George

p.s. You have to love the power of the web and it’s ability to pull powerful data that was once never thought possible. In this case, Google trends pretty much gives us the ability to sit behind the closed doors of Washington and find out what they’re actually thinking. Scary – but sweet!
