I believe the Ring of Fire is more of a provincial matter but the Feds can always lend a helping hand if it is strategic enough in terms of jobs and GDP. To this end, Ontario will have its own elections in a few months and we’ll be curious to know if the opposition Conservatives have an opinion on ROF.

Mac, thanks for chiming in. I believe Flaherty et al understand today’s global economic situation very well but have also had to play politics while holding a minority government. I too hate to see concessions and hope to see even greater fiscal restraint over the next 5 years.

I believe that the Conservatives are business-friendly and with a majority, Steven Harper will want as much private backing as he can muster.
My only problem, after writing numerous letters to Jim Flaherty, is that he and his advisors, seem to not understand the fundamentals of todays financial situation/markets. Or maybe they do, but pander to the socialist crowd to try and gain more votes for next time.
Just happy to see Ignatief and Layton removed as stumbling blocks for Harpers team.
Canada’s economy is rolling right now compared to other western countries.Why change? This government has proven that it can flourish in a slow global recovery.As long as they do everything in their power to develop the Ring of fire.I am a citizen of the U.S. and have heard about the discovery of numerous metals,along with vast quantities of high grade chrome.This could be a tremendous boom for the region and Canada.
Besides his many other positive attributes Steven Harper is a great supporter of the free market style economic order, and his party’s intention to increase the TFSA to $10,000 per year is of great significance for the average Canadian taxpayer. This measure alone will promote personal savings, wealth-creation and capital formation in private hands, which will in turn have a salutary effect on Canada’s economic future. Hopefully it will also promote financial literacy and will reduce the level of indebtedness among the general population.
Besides the above points, his re-election with a majority will have many other positive outcomes for us Canadians, and for our place and standing in the World. With Harper Government in place for 5 years, we, the Canadian nation will face the future with greater confidence.
