Silver Vista in British Columbia has been drilled four times before. Those drill holes hit long stretches of rock containing silver and copper, including one 46-metre section averaging 48 grams of silver per tonne and 0.62% copper. But nobody ever went back to drill around the best holes. Now Maverick Gold and Silver (CSE: MAV / OTC: VRCFF / FWB: VR6) is doing exactly that.
The Company has started a 5-hole, 1,300-metre drill program. The money is already raised, the permits are in place, and the plan is to finish before winter. The earlier results came from previous companies and have not yet been independently checked by Maverick.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The drill is turning now. Instead of re-drilling old holes, Maverick is drilling next to and deeper than the best one. The goal is to find out whether the silver and copper keep going. While the drill is there, the team will also test two other ideas about the property. The program should take about 3–4 weeks.
Results will come one hole at a time. Each hole goes to the lab as soon as it’s done. BC labs are busy right now, so VP Exploration Ian Foreman expects results in roughly 6–8 weeks.
This could be a big type of deposit. Maverick believes Silver Vista may be a deposit where the metals sit in layers of rock. These can spread over large areas. According to Foreman, this type of deposit holds about 23% of the world’s copper. It’s unusual to find one in BC, and the Company compares it to large deposits Hecla owns in Montana.
Permits are taken care of. Maverick has a permit that lets it explore through March 2031. It took about six and a half months to get, which is fast for BC. If this drilling goes well, the Company can keep exploring without waiting for new approvals.
The property got bigger. Maverick added new claims, bringing Silver Vista to 6,444.5 hectares. The new ground includes two spots where earlier soil samples showed signs of metal, in rock similar to the area being drilled now.
WHY IT MATTERS
Companies often drop projects when metal prices are low, not always because the rocks are bad. Silver Vista was drilled in 1991, 1992, 2018 and 2021, but its two best holes were never followed up. Foreman doesn’t guess why: “We don’t know what the rationale or the mindset was, but we have inherited that the two best holes on the property were not followed up.”
This time, Maverick put all the old drilling data into a 3D computer model. That lets the team plan each new hole to answer a specific question. The long sections of silver and copper matter because if they continue as you drill further out, the project can grow quickly. Only the drill can prove that.
Timing helps too. Copper is near record highs, and silver has climbed a lot in recent years. Foreman calls metal prices “a huge factor.” He also points to BC being a stable, mining-friendly place to explore.
IAN FOREMAN, VP EXPLORATION:
“We don’t want to be twinning holes… we want to be expanding, so these first holes are away from and down dip of the best hole.”
THE TAKEAWAY
Maverick is drilling a silver-copper target in British Columbia, with the money raised and the permits in place. It is drilling beside historical results that include 46 metres of 48 grams per tonne silver and 0.62% copper, which still need to be confirmed. Results should start coming in over the next couple of months.
Silver Vista is the first of three planned drill programs. Jericho in Nevada is next, and Gator is aimed for spring 2027. As Foreman puts it, Maverick doesn’t have one main project. It has “property 1A, 1B, 1C.”
