(OTCQB: APPB), a diversified cannabinoid therapeutics company focused on the medical, bioceutical, testing and pet health industries, announced that has signed a partnership agreement with Shannon “the Cannon” Briggs, the former heavyweight boxing champion and world record-holder for the most first round knockouts. 

Through this new partnership, Briggs and the Company will work together to formulate a line of athlete-focused cannabidiol (“CBD”) based health and wellness supplements to enhance training and recovery under the “Champ Organics” brand.

Additionally, Briggs and the Company will collaborate on an awareness campaign to help educate athletes around the world about the potential benefits of using CBD for pain management, relaxation, decreasing anxiety and improving sleep quality.  Briggs hopes to educate the public on the potential benefits of using CBD to help decrease dependence on opioids.

Starbucks could be the first big chain to start selling CBD beverages

  • Coffee behemoth Starbucks could be the first major chain to introduce a range of cannabis-infused beverages, according to analysts.
  • A report released Monday by Cowan revealed its analysis of the CBD market.
  • The group believes that by 2025, CBD retail sales could reach up to $16 billion and that CBD is likely to start showing up in a variety of products on the market.

“The dynamics are fluid, likely delaying adoption from major coffee players like Starbucks in the near term,” wrote analyst Andrew Charles in the report.

“Should the regulation of CBD oil as an additive to food/beverage change or craft/independent coffee shops find a way to comply with the existing regulation, we could envision Starbucks ultimately piloting the ingredient.”

Despite the analysts’ projections, however, Starbucks-branded CBD drinks may not be in the cards–at least for some time. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson told CNBC in January that while the coffee giant is keeping an eye on the trend, cannabis drinks aren’t something the company is planning on rolling out in the near future.

If the caffeine purveyors opt to incorporate cannabis beverages into product lines, they face heavy regulations that may not be worth it–at least in Canada.

All cannabinoids, including CBD, must be sourced from a licenced producer, and regulators still aren’t sure how to deal with potential age restrictions.

Nonetheless, there’s money to be made, so in a few years, there might just be a CBD Frappuccino available to enthusiasts. See you in 2025!

Dr. Xie has over 30 years of experience in the fields of Genomics, Cancer Research and has multiple patents that have been licensed to BioTech and Pharmaceutical companies. 

Although the health benefits of Cannabis and CBD are becoming well known, one of the challenges is the research and development of products for both the consumer, adult-use and pharmaceutical market.  Many universities and doctors have been unable to research and access scientific data on the molecules and effect of phytocannabinoids.

Dr Xiang-Qun (Sean) Xie is an Associate Dean for Research Innovation at the School of Pharmacy and a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences/Drug Discovery Institute, and a PI of an integrated Medicinal Chemistry Biology laboratory of CompuGroup, BioGroup and ChemGroup at the University of Pittsburgh. He is a member of the Science Advisory Board to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He is a Founding Director of Computational Chemical Genomics Screening Center, and a Director/PI of NIH National Center of Excellence for CDAR. He holds joint positions at Dept of Computational Biology and Dept of Structural Biology, and Pitt Cancer Institute MT/DD Program. He is an Editorial Advisory Board member for the AAPS Journal and American Journal.
