Will Technical Factors Push Bitcoin To $50,000 In The Coming Years?

  • Bitcoin could could experience a parabolic bull run to $50,000, climbing more than 800% from current prices, says a prominent technical analyst.
  • Veteran trader Peter Brandt recently made a bold prediction, stating that bitcoin could reach $50,000 in the next two years.

Charles Bovaird, Contributor

Bitcoin could could experience a parabolic bull run to $50,000, climbing more than 800% from current prices, says a prominent technical analyst.

Veteran trader Peter Brandt recently made a bold prediction, stating that bitcoin could reach $50,000 in the next two years.

Credited with forecasting bitcoin’s more than 80% decline in 2018, Brandt cited market history and technical analysis when providing this estimate.

“I believe that charts reflect underlying supply and demand fundamentals and that’s how we have to look at it,” he stated on Yahoo Finance YFi PM.

After bottoming out in 2015, bitcoin prices enjoyed a parabolic advance, emphasized Brandt.

Now, he expects cryptocurrencies will once again enter a parabolic bull market.

[Ed note: Investing in cryptocoins or tokens is highly speculative and the market is largely unregulated. Anyone considering it should be prepared to lose their entire investment.]

Analyst Skepticism

While several analysts emphasized that Brandt’s prediction certainly could materialize, many were understandably skeptical, emphasizing their wariness of price forecasts.

“Peter Brandt’s assessment is purely based on technical indicators and market history,” noted Joe DiPasquale, CEO of cryptocurrency fund of hedge funds BitBull Capital.

“While technical analysis has a place in all markets, past performance is no guarantee for future results,” he stated.

“Meanwhile, however, the current rally is consolidating nicely and we can expect further price appreciation if the trend continues,” added DiPasquale.

Marouane Garcon, managing director of crypto-to-crypto derivatives platform Amulet, urged caution.

“We have to be careful when trying to predict markets,” he noted.

“Parabolic movements happen once in a blue moon,” said Garcon.

As a result, “we can’t depend on them as they tell us more about the crowd’s sentiment than the actual value of the asset.”

He emphasized that while market history can prove helpful, “going forward we have to be more careful because the market has matured and the participants have changed.”

Adoption’s Key Role

Several analysts emphasized the key importance of bitcoin expanding its user base, emphasizing that if the digital currency makes enough progress on this front, it could hit $50,000.

“The focus, I believe, should be on adoption instead of price, because the latter follows the former,” said DiPasquale.

“If Bitcoin adoption continues to grow exponentially in the next two years, we can easily see it hitting the $50,000 mark,” he noted.

“On the other hand, if adoption drives fail and there is no meaningful traction, even $5,000 will be difficult to hold.”

John Hargrave, publisher of Bitcoin Market Journal, also weighed in on this subject:

“As a blockchain gains more users, the price moves up on a quadratic growth curve — similar to [Brandt’s] idea of a parabolic advance.”

Charles Cascarilla, cofounder & CEO of Paxos, offered a similar take.

“The next wave of growth in this cycle will be driven by adoption from mainstream retail and institutions, markets that are order of magnitudes larger than the current users. In that context, $50k seems possible.”

Blockchain Could Be Used By At Least 50% Of All Companies Within 3 Years, Oracle Exec Says

  • “My projection is that between 50%-60% of companies will use blockchain in the next few years,” said Frank Xiong, Oracle group vice president of blockchain product development at the Forbes CIO Summit in Half Moon Bay, California, Monday.

Monica Melton

Ten years after the idea of blockchain was conceived, the technology that underpins cryptocurrencies is starting to be used by large enterprises as a secure way to track goods. But mass utilization is still years away, and it won’t be for every company, said a panel of blockchain executives.

“My projection is that between 50%-60% of companies will use blockchain in the next few years,” said Frank Xiong, Oracle group vice president of blockchain product development at the Forbes CIO Summit in Half Moon Bay, California, Monday.

The enterprise software maker has more than 100 customers using its blockchain platform to track items for reasons such as ensuring the Italian olive oil you’re buying was really made in Italy, or that a manufacturer isn’t buying minerals that support armed conflicts. But it’s not a magic bullet. “We’re past the stage that blockchain can cure everything, so people are becoming more realistic about what’s good for their business model,” he said.

Blockchain is a kind of shared database that allows users to share identical copies of information on many computers. In the past few years, it’s gone from largely supporting virtual currencies like bitcoin to a tool used by companies to more closely and accurately track products or private information that pass through many hands.

Despite the buzz, uptake is still early. Large technology companies like IBM and shipping giant Maersk, and Oracle, have formed consortia around their blockchains, and many efforts are still in the pilot stage. Others, such as $3 billion logistics startup Flexport, say they’re waiting for global standards before they jump in.

In deciding whether to use blockchain, companies should do a pain point assessment, two executives said. Like any venture, they should figure out if it’s worth the cost.

“At the end of the day blockchain makes multipart collaboration more efficient, whether it’s having a consortium to track data on counterfeit getting into supply chains, or how much inventory you need to create a better forecast,” said Ted Kim, vice president in blockchain at Samsung SDS, a unit of the electronics manufacturer that provides IT services, including a pilot projects to track cargo from Korea to Europe using blockchain. He expects in three years, 20% of companies will be using blockchain. “There is tangible ROI in the blockchain.”

Yet even in a world where blockchain is much more widespread, some aspects may resemble today’s commerce system more than blockchain’s evangelists forecast.

“People are predicting that the blockchain will allow people to be decentralized, that everyone will have distributed trusted networks,” said Daniel Jones, CEO of bext360, a software startup that keeps track of commodities by identifying and making an electronic token. “I don’t think that’s possible —I think what we’re going to see is companies vertically integrating, the Amazons of the world are going to continue to vertically integrate to the farm level.”

Crypto Trader DataDash Says Bitcoin Is Bottoming – Plus Ripple and XRP, Ethereum, Tron, Litecoin, IOTA, Stellar

  • From Bitcoin’s price action to the adoption of XRP, Stellar, and Litecoin, here’s a look at some of the stories breaking in the world of crypto.
  • YouTube’s biggest crypto analyst Nicholas Merten says he believes Bitcoin is bottoming.

Bitcoin

YouTube’s biggest crypto analyst Nicholas Merten says he believes Bitcoin is bottoming.

In the latest edition of DataDash, Merten compares BTC’s current price action to the market decline in 2014 and subsequent sideways trading in 2015, and says three indicators suggest Bitcoin is entering a period of sideways consolidation before a run to the upside.

Merten says the 50 and 100-week moving averages, stochastic RSI and true strength indicator all signal BTC is starting to enter a bottoming phase.

“We’re going to need to see much more substantial price action for Bitcoin to be considered in a bull market. So we’re in neither really a bear market as of the last few weeks, and we’re also not in a bull market. Again, we have to see a justification of price on either side.”

According to Merten’s analysis, current market conditions indicate it will take a few weeks or months for Bitcoin to start gaining momentum.

Ripple and XRP

Days after adding XRP to its platform, the Bahrain-based crypto exchange Rain says the digital asset has officially been declared Sharia-compliant in an audit from their partner, the Shariyah Review Bureau.

Our Shari’a compliance audit was completed by our partner @ShariyahReview.

Ripple has been pushing to expand its presence in the Middle East, announcing an expansion in the region late last year.

Ethereum

Mist, one of the first projects from the Ethereum Foundation, is shutting down. The Mist browser, also known as the Ethereum DApp Browser, allowed users to access Ethereum applications and projects. The Mist wallet, designed to be downloaded and run on a computer, allowed users to store, send and receive crypto.

In a farewell post, developer Alex Van de Sande outlines a number of the project’s technical problems, and names Samsung, Opera and Brave as projects that are better suited to move the tech forward.

“While I’m proud of all the accomplishments we achieved in this time advancing the usability of Ethereum and sharing a vision for web3, we feel Mist, the browser has outlived it’s usefulness: the ecosystem has matured so much that now the user has tons of great options of wallets and browsers on both mobile and desktop.”

This is a bitter post to announce, but we are discontinuing Mist. You can read the full post here but for your convenience I will try to summarize in a few tweets: https://t.co/eqw5yWacsa

There are mainly two reasons a good and a bad one: ecosystem and security

Litecoin

Jon Moore aka ‘Johnny Litecoin’, the vice president of Nationwide Merchant Solutions, is showing off Litecoin’s integration with the payment system Clover.

— Jon Moore (@jonnylitecoin) March 20, 2019

The Clover platform offers free open-source code allowing merchants to implement custom third-party payment options.

Stellar

The foreign exchange company Currency Matters says it’s joining IBM’s World Wire remittance platform, which is powered by the Stellar blockchain.

“By connecting to the World Wire network, Currency Matters now has access to a single unified network for foreign exchange and cross-border payments clearing and settlement built on blockchain technology and the Stellar public protocol. This will allow Currency Matters to offer clients the ability to conduct transactions across additional currency corridors and provide access to new digital assets including stable coins using Stellar Lumens (XLM).”

So far, IBM says six banks have signed letters of intent to issue their own stablecoins on the platform.

Tron

The Tron community site Tron.Live is giving crypto enthusiasts an inside look at Tron’s headquarters in Beijing. It occupies two floors with modern flair, lime green accents, wall art, smiling stuffed animals, a circular resting area, a tatami room and a rainbow-colored entertainment lounge. Source: Tron.Live

Tron currently has offices in San Francisco, Singapore and Beijing.

IOTA

IOTA just released the latest edition of the Untangled podcast. The episode explores the platform’s push for smart city adoption, focusing on the energy sector and what the cities of the near future may look like.

Why 2019 May Become The Year Of Enterprise Blockchain

  • Last year, 95% of companies across different industries were investing in blockchain tech projects.
  • In 2019, those pilot projects are finally moving from the test stage to the end users.
  • Goldman Sachs, a former vocal skeptic of the blockchain, has launched a crypto-investing product for their clients in the end of last year.

Andrew Arnold Contributor

Last year, 95% of companies across different industries were investing in blockchain tech projects. In 2019, those pilot projects are finally moving from the test stage to the end users. Goldman Sachs, a former vocal skeptic of the blockchain, has launched a crypto-investing product for their clients in the end of last year. Beyond investing and finance, major blockchain projects have been released in several other industries including cybersecurity, healthcare and agriculture.

Enterprises no longer question whether blockchain is even worth the attention, according to Sky Guo, CEO of Cypherium, a startup offering enterprise-ready blockchain solutions. On the contrary, Guo says they are now proactively seeking new ways of incorporating this technology in their legacy systems. Henri Arslanian, head of fintech and crypto department at PwC, said that 2018 ‘cleared the noise’ in the blockchain space, and 2019 will be the year when big players enter the crypto world. Indeed, in the first months of 2019, several major companies have signed off new partnerships with blockchain startups (ING Bank and R3); invested in blockchain projects (Nasdaq and  Symbiont); and new consortium partnerships emerged (Wall Street Blockchain Alliance and R3).

Further in 2019, we should see more enterprise-level decentralized ledger technologies (DLTs) emerging on the market as the underpinnings for those a strong.

1. Ready-to-use software is now available from top vendors

Amazon, IBM and most recently Oracle offer enterprise-grade blockchain solutions. R3 – an international blockchain consortium, also plans to unveil its platform, Enterprise Corda, later this year.

“Unlike the open-source blockchain software, enterprise solutions come with better scaling mechanisms, security, privacy and additional protocol changes that make them more attractive to the private sector,” Guo said. “In our case, we have improved upon the existing Ethereum consensus mechanism to maximize decentralization and scalability, without sacrificing one for the other. This, in turn, allows to achieve higher transaction speed and smart contract execution time.”

The particular appeal of enterprise-grade DLT is that it also enables unprecedented collaboration opportunities not just within large organizations, but cross-company as well. Several of the largest world food suppliers including Nestle, Unilever, Walmart, Kroger and others, are working with IBM to create a global food tracing system on blockchain. The collaboration is a crucial factor here to reach complete visibility into the origins of potentially hazardous goods and rapidly trace the source of contamination. Guo said enterprise-grade solutions set unified standards for such collaboration, enabling faster adoption and better interoperability between companies, ultimately benefiting everyone in the industry.

2.  Interoperability has significantly improved

Lack of connectivity mechanisms between different types of blockchain solutions was a major roadblock to wider adoption. But these days, tech companies are presenting new viables ways for establishing connections between different ledgers.

Ripple has released an Interledger – mid-ware arbitrary protocol that can “connect” different types of ledgers, both distributed and traditional centralized ones. Its main goal is to improve interoperability between financial institutions. The additional benefit is that Interledger allows users to store aggregate transaction data off a public blockchain by using a connector to transfer funds between private versions of the Ripple network.

“Customer data privacy remains a sore point for enterprises as they must constantly upgrade their systems to remain compliant with emerging regulations,” Guo said. “By leveraging blockchain businesses can actually reduce their data ownership. Customer information recorded on the distributed ledger doesn’t have to change hands when transactions are executed. Instead, users can simply grant permission for access to those records whenever needed. This, in turn, allows enterprises to remain compliant with less effort, and users can benefit from greater privacy and security.”

3. The overall improved understanding and sentiment around blockchain

Blockchain is no longer viewed as an abstract technology supporting crypto-currencies. Over a half (58%) of investors and 55% of consumers feel that blockchain are optimistic about the blockchain’s potential for money transfers. What’s more important though, is that customers’ perception of the blockchain is changing too. Per Deloitte survey, only 18% of respondents in the US consider blockchain to be just “a database for money” with little other applications outside the financial industry. For the majority, it’s a promising new technology capable to transform a multitude of business processes.

In fact, that’s how most businesses now view blockchain. According to the same survey, 74% of companies state that they already have a “compelling business case” for blockchain technology; 34% already initiated a blockchain deployment.

As the sector clears of opportunistic ICO projects and speculative use cases, Guo argues that enterprises are becoming the key market players. And as more successful projects emerge, legacy companies are feeling an increasing pressure to innovate as well. With ready-to-use software and a burgeoning ecosystem of blockchain consortiums joining the bandwagon has become easier than ever.

Report: Bank of China Joins New Blockchain Platform for Property Buyers

  • Property development firm New World Development and the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) will jointly launch a blockchain platform for home buyers with the Bank of China reportedly being the first bank user.

By Ana Alexandre

Property development firm New World Development and the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) will jointly launch a blockchain platform for home buyers with the Bank of China reportedly being the first bank user. The news was announced by local news outlet the Standard on Feb. 20.

The platform reportedly aims to replace paperwork operations — such as signing the Provisional Sale and Purchase Agreement or a mortgage application — with digital authorization. This will supposedly allow users to send the purchaser’s authorized, encrypted and digitally signed provisional agreement to selected banks.

Integration of distributed ledger technology (DLT) into organizations’ internal processes is estimated to help reduce banks’ operating costs by 15 to 60 percent, while the platform itself expects to see an increase in the number of users.

ASTRI CEO Hugh Chow reportedly said that DLT could reshape property market operations, resulting in efficient and flexible property buying procedures, while the HKMA argued that DLT “allows all […] users in the ecosystem to share customer information and transaction histories securely over a distributed data infrastructure, without compromising customer privacy or sensitive business information.”

Last August, Bank of China — one of the four largest state-owned banks in China — partnered with financial services corporation China UnionPay (CUP) to jointly explore blockchain technology applications for payment systems. Within the initiative, CUP was set to build a unified port for mobile integrated financial services, where cardholders will be able to use a QR code to spend, transfer and trade on a cloud flash payment app.

In January, China’s self-regulatory bank organization, the China Banking Association (CBA), announced it will launch a blockchain-based platform to improve efficiency across the sector. The project, formally dubbed the “China Trade Finance Inter-bank Trading Blockchain Platform,” aims to use blockchain to target trade finance, transactions and other financial services.

China has been actively adopting blockchain technology in various sectors. Recently, the country’s government issued the “Guiding Opinions on Rural Service Revitalization of Financial Services.” The new framework aims to use emerging technologies like blockchain to “improve the identification, monitoring, early warning, and disposal levels of agricultural credit risks.”
