  • Winter drill program on the Albany Graphite Project has concluded with two large diameter holes totalling 263 metres
  • The two holes yielded over 110 tonnes of Albany Graphite material
  • The recovered material is sufficient to produce several tonnes of purified graphite
  • The material will now be prepared for shipping so that in can be processed into high purity graphite for graphene production.

Thunder Bay, Ontario–(Newsfile Corp. – March 22, 2019) – ZEN Graphene Solutions Ltd. (TSXV: ZEN) (“ZEN” or “Company”) announces that its winter drilling program on the Albany Graphite Project has concluded with two large diameter holes totalling 263 metres having been completed. These two holes yielded over 110 tonnes of Albany Graphite material, sufficient material to produce several tonnes of purified graphite to be used as pre-cursor graphene material for graphene applications testing. The recovered material will now be prepared for shipping so that in can be processed into high purity graphite for graphene production.

Dr. Francis Dubé, Zenyatta’s Co‐CEO and Head of Business Development and Technology said: “While unseasonably mild temperatures forced earlier termination of the program than originally planned, sufficient material was collected to be used to develop ZEN’s commercialized graphene production process and larger scale graphene applications development. Since the permits remain valid until at least 2022, ZEN will be able to collect additional bulk sample material as needed next year.”

A decision will be made on an additional bulk sampling program during the course of the year as the Company moves forward in developing graphene enhanced applications. Surplus funds from the 2019 program will be re-deployed for other planned activities in 2019 including, environmental baseline, geotechnical and hydrogeological studies.

From the work done by the ZEN team over just the past 6 months, the Company is now actively collaborating with 22 industrial end users and 10 Canadian universities. ZEN is also receiving significant interest from multiple Canadian government agencies who have already directly contributed over $2 million to ZEN’s graphene research and development work.

Dr. Francis Dubé Co-CEO commented, “Our model of bringing together end-users with specific graphene-related opportunities and researchers from top Canadian Universities to provide industry specific graphene solutions is proving to be attractive to all parties. We are creating win-win-win scenarios for everyone involved as we help solve industry challenges in delivering the power of graphene to end-users. Our work is also bringing leading edge research projects to Canadian academia and creating demand for our graphene products while developing potentially valuable intellectual property (IP) protected inventions. The work being done across the country has the potential to make Canada a leader in the emerging clean technology-oriented graphene industry.”

ZEN’s graphene solutions and the potential economic benefit that they can bring to the Canadian economy has attracted the attention of several government agencies that are supporting innovation, sustainability and new clean technology. The Company will continue to work with the government program coordinators for the opportunities that ZEN’s unique Albany Graphite product offers for innovative nano-materials applications. This effort is led by ZEN’s Ottawa-based Outreach Program Coordinator, Monique Manaigre.

The market development work is being led by the Company’s Head of Sales, Phil Chataigneau along with Research Catalyst, Colin van der Kuur. Their combined efforts have led to the development of the 5 most significant potential graphene market verticals:

Civil Engineering:

Graphene additive in cement/concrete.
Graphene in roads/surfacing products.

In recognition of the excellent progress made by the Company’s market development team over the past six months, the Board of Directors has approved the grant of 50,000 incentive stock options grant to each of these three individuals. These options will be priced at $0.40 per share. One-third of the options vested on the date of their grant, one-third of the options will vest six months following the date of grant and the balance will vest on the one-year anniversary of the date of grant. The options have a term of two years and are subject in all respects to the terms of the Company’s incentive stock option plan and the policies of the TSX Venture Exchange.

  • Industrial Research Partner with Prof. Aicheng Chen of Guelp University
  • Prof. Chen received 1.4$ Award as a new Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in electrochemistry and nanoscience
  • Zenyatta continues to attract talented and creative research partners along with research funding through federal and provincial government programs.

Thunder Bay, Ontario–(Newsfile Corp. – November 22, 2018) – Zenyatta Ventures Ltd. (TSXV: ZEN) (“Zenyatta” or “Company”) congratulates Prof. Aicheng Chen at the University of Guelph for being recently named as a new Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in electrochemistry and nanoscience, a title that included an award of $1.4 million over the next seven years. Zenyatta has been collaborating with Prof. Chen and his team since 2015 and the research has been funded by two Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (“NSERC”) Collaborative Research and Development (CRD) grants and an Ontario Centres of Excellence Voucher for Innovation and Productivity II (OCE VIP II) grant. Zenyatta is proud to be an industrial partner with Prof. Chen and his team and looks forward to continued collaborations.

Zenyatta continues to attract talented and creative research partners along with research funding through federal and provincial government programs. Under the NSERC Engage program, any Intellectual Property (IP) that is developed by the two projects will go to the Company. Zenyatta will continue to identify, recruit and sign on more research partners in order to increase the market potential of graphene. This will permit the company to develop its own market demand for Zenyatta graphene and also develop its vertical integration as well as adding more IP to its incubator program.

Zenyatta is also pleased to announce that the NSERC Engage committee has granted awards to Professors Eugenia Kumacheva and Michael Pope to study the use of Zenyatta graphene quantum dots and graphene in water filtration and next generation solid-state batteries applications, respectively.

Prof. Kumacheva is a Full Professor of Chemistry at the University of Toronto and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Advanced Polymer Materials. Her research interests span the fields of fundamental and applied polymers science, nanotechnology, microfluidics, and interface chemistry and has led to over 250 journal publications and over 20 patents. Prof. Kumacheva and her team propose to develop a nanocolloidal graphene-derived material which has a tunable pore size and can purify water of toxic heavy metal ions. These hydrogels have the potential of being scalable, robust and recyclable and provide a highly effective water purification and remediation solution.

Prof. Pope has more than 11 years of experience developing supercapacitors, Li-ion and Li-Sulphur batteries using graphene-based materials at Princeton University during his PhD studies, in industry at Vorbeck Materials Corp. and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo. His work has led to more than 23 journal publications and 7 patent applications describing such technologies. Prof. Pope and his team’s goal is to produce solid-state battery anodes by wrapping silicon particles with a protective layer of graphene and interfacing this graphene-wrapped powder with emerging, high-conductivity, solid-state electrolytes.

Mr. Peter Wood, P.Eng, P.Geo., President and COO of Zenyatta, is the “Qualified Person” for the purposes of National Instrument 43-101 and has reviewed, prepared and supervised the preparation of the technical information contained in this news release.
