Standard Graphite Achieves Positive Metallurgical Results Obtained on Mousseau East Graphite

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 8:44 AM on Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(Feb. 27, 2013) – Standard Graphite Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGH)(OTCQX:DARDF) (the “Company”) is pleased to report the positive results from the ongoing metallurgical tests performed by SGS Lakefield on sections of drill core from the first diamond drill program on its flagship Mousseau East Deposit.

Standard initiated metallurgical beneficiation testing at SGS Mineral Services in Lakefield, Ontario to characterize the graphite present on the main portion of the historical deposit. The testing was done through Locked Cycle Tests (“LCT”). These consist in a series of mechanical operations including crushing and grinding to liberate the graphite from the matrix followed by sieving and sorting and assaying of the different fractions to characterize particle size and purity.

Three (3) runs have now been completed on composite drill core samples from the main Mousseau East Deposit. The tests were carried out by gradually increasing the polishing time from 30, 45 and 60 minutes in each sample to evaluate its effects on the final product. The final treatment produced a concentrate with a purity approximating 95% for all large and medium size fractions. The results from the last run (60 minutes) are presented below:

Preliminary graphite distribution and recovery results
Mousseau East Project
Mesh size Weight fraction (%) Cg (%)
+48 7.0 94.5
+80 14.5 95.3
+150 21.9 94.9
+200 14.1 94.4
-200 42.5 81.9

Chris Bogart, President & CEO comments: “We are extremely pleased with these initial results having achieved a commercial product using standard processing methods. Results can be expected to improve further by optimizing and customizing the processing to our material”. The three year average value of this blend of graphite concentrates is ~$1400/tonne. This has been calculated using the average of prices tracked by Industrial Minerals using their FCL, CIF European port $/tonne price for medium to large flake graphite concentrate.”

SGS Mineral Services also estimated that the rejects would not require post-treatment since they contain sufficient carbonate minerals to buffer any potential acid generating reactions. This testing of the acid generating potential of the rejects is crucial to determine the processing involved during operations. Consequently, the rejects at Mousseau East would require no additional treatment or separation thereby reducing overall costs and environmental hazards.

Fieldwork is expected to resume during the second quarter of 2013 with follow-up diamond drilling on its Mousseau East project aimed at better defining and expanding the historical resource en-route to a N1 43-101 resource.

Standard Graphite Corp.: Exploration Drilling at Mousseau East Deposit Expands Main Graphite Zone Over 700m

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 8:21 AM on Thursday, January 10th, 2013

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(Jan. 10, 2013) – Standard Graphite Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGH)(OTCQX:DARDF) (the “Company”) is pleased to report the results from the expansion drilling performed during the summer 2012 diamond drilling program on its Mousseau East Deposit. The expansion drilling aimed primarily at tracing the historical mineralization towards the southwest along a well-defined conductor.

The expansion drilling marked the second phase of the program completed following the validation drilling for which results were announced earlier (see press release 21 November 2012) and are highlighted below:

Validation drilling results include:

  • M12-01: 52.9m of 7.5% Cg
    Including 22.9m of 12.9% Cg
  • M12-03: 18.9m of 9.7% Cg
  • M12-04: 29.9m of 8.3% Cg
  • M12-06: 24.6m of 10.6% Cg
  • M12-07: 15.5m of 11.2% Cg
  • M12-10: 15.3m of 11.6% Cg

M12-01 was implanted in a previously undrilled section directly south of the Main zone and confirmed that the mineralization extends beyond the historical resource. The expansion drill holes were emplaced towards the southwest from M12-01 along the trace of the EM conductor outlined by an airborne EM survey flown in the summer 2012. Drilling further confirmed the continuity of the graphitic horizon along the entire conductor. A series of widely spaced diamond drill holes successfully traced the extension of the graphite-bearing horizon to the western edge of the property for an approximate 500m of additional strike length. A compilation of composite assays from the core produced the following results.

Expansion Drilling Results

* Measured intercept along core axis not necessarily representative of true width.

The results obtained appear highly promising and will require additional drilling along the wider and richer intercepts to define some potential additional resources. The company is currently preparing this additional phase of diamond drilling.

During the expansion phase of the program, some 10 widely spaced holes were drilled to cover a well-defined EM target. The expansion drilling was planned in consultation with MRB & Associates who was responsible for the supervision of the drilling operations, the logging and sampling of the core. Sampling including the addition standardized reference material and blanks according to a strict QA/QC protocol was carried out in their Val-d’Or facility and half split core samples were shipped to Act Labs of Ancaster, Ontario for graphitic carbon assaying.

Standard Graphite Drills 52.9m of 7.5% Graphite Including 22.9 m of 12.9% Cg

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 1:38 PM on Wednesday, November 21st, 2012

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(Marketwire – Nov. 21, 2012) – Standard Graphite Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGH) (the “Company”) is pleased to report the initial results from the validation portion of the summer 2012 diamond drilling program on its Mousseau East Deposit. The results are currently being integrated in the database to allow comparison with their historical equivalents.

Highlight Intervals Include:

• M12-01 52.9m of 7.5% Cg
Including 22.9m of 12.9% Cg
• M12-03 18.9m of 9.7% Cg
• M12-04 29.9m of 8.3% Cg
• M12-06 24.6m of 10.6% Cg
• M12-07 15.5m of 11.2% Cg
• M12-10 15.3m of 11.6% Cg

It is of significance to note that M12-01 was emplaced between the main zone and the SW extension confirming the continuity between the two zones. The historical resource did not include this portion of the mineralization and the SW extension. M12-03, -06 and -07 are located along the eastern edge of the main zone indicating that the mineralization is open both east and southward.

The holes selected for duplication represented the various geological environments present at Mousseau East ranging from the higher grade sections within the main zone to the satellite or marginal portions present outside. The primary objective of this program was to reproduce the historical results to confirm the accuracy both in the location of the previous holes and in the assaying. Logging of the core corroborated the geological setting where the graphite occurs for a large part at the interface between the quartzofeldspathic gneisses and the calcsilicate/marble units on the northeastern flank. The validation phase is essential to allow the use of the historical data for the calculation of a resource under the current NI43-101 norm.

MRB & Associates is now integrating the results in the database to allow the direct comparison with the historical diamond drill holes and to validate the results according to the strict internal QA/QC protocol. The weighted averages for intervals “or composite samples” were calculated from the preliminary results and these are presented in the table below.

During the validation phase of the program, some 12 historical holes were duplicated representing approximately 20% of the original diamond-drill holes that served to calculate the historical resource. The confirmation drilling was planned in consultation with P&E Mining Consultants who will be responsible for the upcoming NI-43-101 Resource Estimate. Sampling including the addition standardized reference material and blanks was carried out at MRB’s coreshack in Val-d’Or and samples were shipped to Act Labs of Ancaster, Ontario for graphitic carbon assaying. Drilling, logging and sampling are carried out under the supervision of MRB & Associates of Val-d’Or, Québec who is also responsible for the sampling protocol.

The Mousseau East Property was acquired by Standard Graphite in April of 2012 (see press release April 24, 2012) and is located some 40 kilometres northeast of the town of Mont-Laurier in northwestern Québec and within 50 kilometres of Timcal Canada Inc.’s producing Lac-des-Îles Graphite Mine, which is currently the larger of the two producing mines in North America.

Beyond Pencils and Green Technology: The Best Graphite Stocks (NGC, SGH, GPH, CHGI, GTI & GRPH)

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 9:53 AM on Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

Graphite is an increasingly important technology component with graphite mining stocks including Northern Graphite Corp (NGC), Standard Graphite Corp (SGH), Graphite One Resources (GPH), China Carbon Graphite Group (CHGI) and Graphite Corp (GRPH) plus GrafTech International (GTI).

Nov 6, 2012 1:33:42 AM PST

Most investors are probably unfamiliar with graphite, a popular choice for electrodes because of its electric conductivity, in part because most of the publicly traded graphite stocks like Northern Graphite Corp (CVE: NGC), Standard Graphite Corp (CVE: SGH) and Graphite One Resources (CVE: GPH) trade on Canadian exchanges but there are a options for US investors, including China Carbon Graphite Group (PINK: CHGI), GrafTech International Ltd (NYSE: GTI) and Graphite Corp (PINK: GRPH). So why should investors be interested in graphite and hence, graphite stocks?

What is Graphite?

First a bit of history: Back in in 1789, the material known as graphite was named “graphite,” a derivative from an ancient Greek word meaning “to draw/write,” because it was already being used in pencils. In fact, most pencil “lead” is actually ground up graphite. Today, graphite is mostly used for batteries, brake linings, expanded graphite, foundry facings, lubricants, refractories and steelmaking. However, the real and potentially “unlimited” (up to a certain point) growth for graphite comes from potential new uses in the form of green initiatives like electric cars, fuel cells, lithium ion batteries (Note: There is 10 times more graphite than lithium in lithium-ion batteries plus it takes 30-40 times more graphite to make these batteries thanks to losses during processing), nuclear energy, solar energy and semiconductors. Likewise, the rise of China, Brazil, India and other emerging markets is creating strong demand for traditional graphite uses e.g. steel making and the automotive industry.

natural-graphite-uses.jpg

In addition, its worth noting that China produces around 70% of the world’s graphite but production and export growth there is leveling off, costs are rising and quality is falling. Hence, new sources of graphite will need to be developed – meaning there are opportunities for North American based mining stocks.

Graphite One Resources (CVE: GPH). Also trading on the OTCQX under the symbol “GPHOF,” Graphite One Resources is a mineral exploration company focused on its Graphite Creek Property located on the Seward Peninsula of Alaska. According to Graphite One Resources, the property offers significant potential for the discovery and development of a large-flake, high-grade graphite mineralization exposed at surface – meaning an open pit mine can be used. Graphite One Resources plans to advance Graphite Creek to a NI 43-101 compliant resource in 2013. On Monday, Graphite One Resources rose 3.03% to C$0.170 (GPH has a trading range of C$0.06 to C$0.40 a share) for a market cap of C$14.59 million plus the stock is up 54.5% since the start of the year and down 62.2% over the past five years.

US Listed Graphite Stocks

The few pure US listed graphite stocks that investors should be aware of include the following:

China Carbon Graphite Group (PINK: CHGI). Founded in 1986 as a state-owned carbon and graphite manufacturer and restructured in 2002 as a private enterprise. China Carbon Graphite Group is one of China’s leading wholesale suppliers of fine grain and high purity graphite and it’s a top overall producer of carbon and graphite products. There is not too much written about China Carbon Graphite Group but for what its worth given it’s a Chinese company, the company does issue regular earnings reports with the last one noting the ramp up of its higher margin business. On Friday (the last day CHGI traded), China Carbon Graphite Group fell 9.8% to $0.460 (CHGI has a 52 week trading range of $0.32 to $1.26 a share) for a market cap of $11.15 million plus the stock is up 2.2% since the start of the year and down 22.5% over the past five years according to Yahoo! Finance.

Chart forChina Carbon Graphite Group, Inc. (CHGI)

GrafTech International (NYSE: GTI). A world leader in graphite material science with more than 125 years of experience in the carbon and graphite industry, GrafTech International products are used in a variety of applications in various industries, including metal production, electronics, chemicals, aerospace and transportation. The last time GrafTech International reported earnings, shares soared because they beat expectations although revenue and net income both fell. Likewise, GrafTech International’s sales for its core industrial-materials business fell 14% but the smaller engineered-solutions segment (e.g. consumer products) rose 41%. In addition, GrafTech International’s bottom line had surged 46% in the second quarter thanks to higher prices for its graphite electrodes and needle coke. On Monday, GrafTech International rose 0.38% to $10.63 (GTI has a 52 week trading range of $8.45 to $17.69 a share) for a market cap of $1.43 billion plus the stock is down 22.1% since the start of the year and down 39.7% over the past five years.

Graphite Corp (PINK: GRPH). An exploration stage company focused on the evaluation, acquisition and development of domestic graphite mining opportunities, Graphite Corp believes the best alternate source of flake graphite is located in Alabama along with Montana. Hence, Graphite Corp is an investor’s best bet for a pure play graphite stock whose source of graphite is safely located in the USA should there be an interruption with supplies of graphite from China. Moreover, Graphite Corp has completed a total of $750,000 worth of equity financings to fund the acquisitions of its properties in Alabama and Montana and to begin initial work programs while budgets and exploration plans are being developed with work to beginning this quarter. Hence, Graphite Corp is a graphite stock investors should be watching. On Monday, Graphite Corp fell 2.56% to $0.760 (GRPH has a 52 week trading range of $0.20 to $1.05 a share) for a market cap $18.01 million plus the stock is down about 5% since last October.

Chart forGraphite Corp. (GRPH)

The Bottom Line. Irrespective of the economy, graphite will only meaning investors at least need to keep an eye on graphite stocks like Northern Graphite Corp, Standard Graphite Corp, Graphite One Resources, China Carbon Graphite Group, GrafTech International and Graphite Corp.

Standard Graphite Discovers A New Graphite Zone on Mousseau East

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 8:37 AM on Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(Sept. 11, 2012) – Standard Graphite Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGH) (the “Company”) is pleased to report the discovery of a new graphite zone on the eastern portion of its Mousseau East Graphite project. The new zone was discovered on the eastern side of Oat Lake during a ground follow-up of the TDEM anomalies defined during the property-scale airborne geophysical survey.

In late July 2012, the company initiated a systematic prospecting program on the project putting the emphasis on the conductive axis traced during the TDEM survey performed during the same month. The primary objective of this program was to explain a series of well-defined conductors on the eastern portion of the property where no historical work was reported.

The ground crews successfully located graphite horizons in areas adjacent to the anomalies and an important discovery was made while traversing along a conductive axis on the southern flank of a hill close to Oat Lake. A graphite outcrop (19.6% Cg) was found within the characteristic rusty weathered schists and bears all similarities with the richer surface occurrences found in the main zone.

The company is immediately moving forward with applications for the necessary permits required to evaluate this discovery. An application has been made with the MRNF to strip and drill the new graphite outcrops and work will begin immediately upon receiving the necessary authorizations. The objective is to ascertain whether this mineralization forms the direct continuity of the main zone or whether it is an entirely different horizon.

Chris Bogart, President and CEO explains: “This recent discovery could significantly impact the project and therefore Standard has decided to quickly focus its attention on the eastern side of the project. Additional drilling has been planned to better evaluate the implication of this new zone.”

Standard Graphite Begins Resource Drilling at Mousseau East Graphite Deposit in Quebec

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 11:01 AM on Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(Aug. 8, 2012) – Standard Graphite Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGH) (the “Company”) SGH is pleased to announce that drilling has commenced on the Mousseau East property. The company is planning a 3000 m diamond drilling program aimed at qualifying and expanding the historical resource as well as exploring for additional potential resources elsewhere on the project.

Standard has contracted MRB & Associates (“MRB”) of Val-d’Or, Québec and P&E Mining Consultants (“P&E”) of Toronto, Ontario to produce a NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate on its flagship Mousseau East property, based on the historical work. To validate previous results, a diamond drilling program has been designed to replicate a number of historical diamond drill holes emplaced on the main zone. The planning and execution of the drilling operations, including the logging and sampling of the core, will be carried out under the supervision of MRB. The modeling of the graphite zone(s) and the resource estimate calculation will be completed by P&E, based on the data validated by MRB during the drilling phase.

Standard is also planning additional diamond drilling outside of the main zone targeted at expanding the historical resource along strike and at depth. Previous work during the diamond drill programs completed between 1989 and 1992 has shown that the resource remained opened in every direction and also at depth. The drill holes have been planned to intersect the extension of the current mineralization at shallow depths. Lastly, the program will conclude with the testing of some additional targets that have been highlighted during the airborne geophysical survey and currently being investigated on surface.

Chris Bogart, President and CEO, comments: “This drill program is significant for Standard as it will allow us to confirm and target expansion of the historical resource. Our recent geologic work and interpretations have shown that the potential is excellent both in the direct extension of the current Mousseau body and elsewhere on the property.”

The Mousseau East Deposit was discovered in 1983 following the emplacement of a new road in the area north of Ste-Véronique, Québec. Systematic exploration was carried out by Graphicor between 1989 and 1993 with property-scale electromagnetic geophysical surveys along cut grids, and exploration and definition drilling, leading to resource estimates. The preliminary evaluation of the mining potential was based on resource estimates calculated internally in 1992 by Graphicor Resources for the levels comprised between surface and -40 metres. This estimate was further verified and validated independently by Derry, Michener, Booth and Wahl (DMB&W), now based in Vancouver. The historical non-NI 43-101 compliant estimates quoted are presented in the table below.

A qualified person has not completed the work necessary to verify the historical estimates as mineral reserves or resource for purposes of NI 43-101. The Company is not treating the historical mineral resource estimates as NI 43-101 defined current resources or reserves. The historical estimates should not be relied upon. This property will require considerable further evaluation, which Standard’s management and consultants intend to carry out in due course.

Standard Graphite Initiates Exploration on Mousseau East Property

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 9:44 AM on Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(July 24, 2012) – Standard Graphite Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGH) (the “Company”) is pleased to inform its shareholders that work has commenced on its flagship Mousseau East Property. The summer 2012 work program is aimed at qualifying the historic resource to be NI 43-101 compliant and exploring for its potential extensions.

Work on the property began in May of 2012 immediately after its acquisition with a compilation of the historical data in a comprehensive geo-referenced database. Standard Graphite also initiated an airborne Mag – TDEM geophysical survey, conducted by Prospectair Geosurveys, over the entire property that has been completed with the results expected shortly. The area is currently being prospected and mapped geologically to locate additional targets and to gain a better understanding on the geometry of the graphite trends.

In addition, the Company is pleased to report that is has applied and obtained the necessary permits for its upcoming diamond drilling program. The drill program will include; the replication of some of the critical historical drill-holes in order to update the historic deposit to a current NI 43-101 compliant resource, step out drill holes testing known mineralized structures to depth and on strike, and exploratory drill holes. The drill program will commence upon review and completion of the results of the Mag-TDEM survey and the results from the current surface prospecting program.

The Mousseau East Property was acquired by Standard Graphite in April of 2012 (see press release April 24, 2012). It is located some 40 kilometres northeast of the town of Mont-Laurier in northwestern Quebec and within 50 kilometres of Timcal Canada Inc.’s producing Lac-des-Iles Graphite Mine, which is currently the larger of the two producing mines in North America. The Mousseau East Deposit was discovered in 1983 following the emplacement of a new road in the area north of Ste-Veronique, Quebec. Systematic exploration was carried out by Graphicor between 1989 and 1993 and included some 62 diamond drill holes, totaling 4996 metres, allowing for a resource calculation to be conducted. The possibility of initiating a mining operation was evaluated using only a 40-metre-deep open-pit on the main resource of the Mousseau East Deposit.

Standard Graphite Discovers New Graphite Trend on Little-Bryan Property

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 8:37 AM on Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(July 11, 2012) – Standard Graphite Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGH) (the “Company”) is pleased to update its shareholders on the exploration progress on the Little-Bryan property in Ontario. The ground prospecting and geological reconnaissance program resulted in the discovery of a new graphite horizon lying approximately one (1) kilometre to the north of the original trend, coincident with the North electromagnetic (EM) trend outlined by the airborne geophysical survey.

During the months of April and May 2012, Standard mandated MPH Consulting Ltd. of Toronto, Ontario to conduct a preliminary prospecting and geological reconnaissance program over its Ontario properties, Black Donald and Little-Bryan. The objective was to sample and evaluate the known graphite occurrences, as well as locating outcrops along the conductive trends highlighted during the property-scale airborne geophysical surveys completed in January of 2012.

The program was successful with the field team being able to locate and sample the historical trenches on the Little-Bryan property along the South conductor, and to trace its extent approximately three (3) kilometres past the existing work towards the west. The most important highlight of the program came with the confirmation that the newly discovered North conductor is similar to the South conductor, with both being caused by a graphite-bearing sequence of rusty gneisses and minor calcsilicates.

A total of 33 representative reconnaissance samples were collected from outcrops, including 13 from the North and 19 from the South conductors. The following map highlights the results from the first phase ground exploration program on Little-Bryan:

Chris Bogart, President and CEO, comments: “This new discovery at Little-Bryan confirms that we have selected the optimal approach to our exploration. The airborne TDEM survey proved its great effectiveness at tracing known mineralization and outlining new targets. With only 13 samples collected on the new North trend thus far, this leaves ample room along the five (5) kilometre trend for a potential high-grade discovery, while the South trend delivered some outstanding results with grades up to 9.81% Cg.”

The Little-Bryan property is located some 140 kilometres from Ottawa in Renfrew County, and consists of 15 claims covering approximately 2800 hectares.

Standard Graphite Confirms Significant Conductor on Notre Dame Property in Southwestern Quebec

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 9:45 AM on Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(July 4, 2012) – Standard Graphite Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGH) (the “Company”) is pleased to report on the continuing success of its airborne TDEM surveys (time domain electromagnetics) aimed at characterizing the conductive signatures of the surface graphite occurrences on its projects. Interpretation of the Notre-Dame property results confirms that the surface graphite is also part of an extensive conductor outlined by the TDEM survey.

The Notre Dame property is one of four (4) properties acquired by Standard Graphite in the fall of 2011 in southwestern Quebec, and is located within trucking distance of its flagship Mousseau East Project. Each property is located over a well-established graphite occurrence and part of the Central Metasedimentary Belt of the Grenville Province, known to be a favorable host to graphite deposits. During April 2012, the properties were flown by Prospectair Geosurveys Inc of Gatineau, Quebec to measure the conductive response of the rocks underlying the properties and to trace the extent of the graphitic horizons. The four properties, Kiamika, Preston, 31 Milles, and Notre Dame are located within 90 kilometres of the Mousseau East property on which an historical non-NI 43-101 compliant resource has been identified (see press release April 24, 2012).

The graphite occurrence on Notre Dame that prompted the acquisition of the project is now known to be part of a regional north-south trend that shows significant widening and a more intense conductive response over approximately four kilometres around the known occurrences. Standard is now ready to initiate a reconnaissance program consisting of prospecting that will cover all of its Quebec properties. During this first phase, the teams will locate the surface occurrences and trace them along the conductors to better estimate the extent and widths of the graphite zones.

Chris Bogart, President and CEO of Standard Graphite comments: “We are very pleased to have been successful in tying in all of our historical showings together with the extensions to known regional conductors. TDEM has been a very effective tool during the first phase of exploration. With the prospecting program now starting, it will be exciting to sample those known occurrences and their extensions particularly where the occurrences are not located at the peak of the conductors.”

The completed 888-line-kilometre airborne TDEM survey covering the four southwestern Quebec properties are part of the initial property coverage designed to assist Standard Graphite in targeting known and new mineralization and orienting the fieldwork. Standard Graphite will release the survey results of the last remaining southwestern Quebec property when they become available.
