KWESST $KWE.ca Announces Pending Patent for Improved Digital Aiming Systems $WRTC $BYRN.ca $PAT.ca $POWW

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 8:29 AM on Thursday, September 24th, 2020
  • Confirmed the formalization of patent pending status of an invention which improves the accuracy of military weapons systems, utilizing a novel micro-optical and computer vision technology, branded “Polaris”
  • Polaris works with digital aiming systems for military weapons including the KWESST’s flagship Tactical And Situational Control System (TASCS) and its Integrated Fires Module (IFM) to achieve the kind of accuracy normally obtainable only with expensive “smart” weapons systems.
  • TASCS IFM and its Polaris enhancement are comprised of an app and simple snap-on device that turns traditional “dumb” weapons into “smart” weapons, without any modification to the weapons or ammunition

Ottawa, Ontario–(September 24, 2020) –  KWESST Micro Systems Inc. (TSXV: KWE) (“KWESST” or “the Company”) today confirmed the formalization of patent pending status of an invention which improves the accuracy of military weapons systems, utilizing a novel micro-optical and computer vision technology, branded “Polaris”.

Polaris works with digital aiming systems for military weapons including the KWESST’s flagship Tactical And Situational Control System (TASCS) and its Integrated Fires Module (IFM) to achieve the kind of accuracy normally obtainable only with expensive “smart” weapons systems. TASCS IFM and its Polaris enhancement are comprised of an app and simple snap-on device that turns traditional “dumb” weapons into “smart” weapons, without any modification to the weapons or ammunition.

KWESST President and CEO, Jeff MacLeod, commented that, “Polaris is an important enhancement to KWESST’s TASCS and IFM system, which we believe will make this whole technology set even more compelling for military customers as they seek to improve the precision and utility of existing weapons systems.” He added: “While developed to work with our TASCS IFM module, Polaris could be implemented on non-competing fire control systems sold by other manufacturers.”

As well, Polaris and TASCS IFM enhance safety since weapon system commanders receive an accurate visual indication of the point of impact, allowing them to monitor projected impact points and quickly adjust aiming for greater precision.

The TASCS and Polaris suite integrate seamlessly into Battlefield Management Applications (BMA), the software systems used by NATO and NATO allies’ militaries to disseminate information, plan operations, and provide general operational awareness.

Current military digital aiming systems for weapons can suffer from inaccuracy due to fluctuations in inertial navigation, GPS, and digital magnetic compass bearings, particularly when weapons are stationary for long periods of time. Polaris overcomes these inherent inaccuracies through digital aiming that is not affected by magnetic fields, shock or recoil, or “drift” in location bearings over time.

The key benefits of Polaris for military users include:

  • Faster time on target;
  • Improved first round effects and accuracy; and
  • Reduction in the number of rounds required to neutralize a target.

Improved accuracy and first round effects also mean a reduction in potential collateral damage.

About TASCS and IFM

TASCS is an app and snap-on weapon adaptor that streams situational awareness and targeting information from any source directly to soldiers’ smart devices and their weapons systems for a leap ahead in safer and more effective engagement of adversaries. IFM is the variant of TASCS that integrates this capability into many short-range and long-range weapons systems, including grenade launchers and mortars.

About KWESST

KWESST develops and commercializes high-value ultra-miniaturized technology applications that make a critical difference to the safety and operational effectiveness of personnel in the defence and security industries. The Company’s current portfolio of unique proprietary offerings includes:

  • Its signature TASCSTM system (Tactical and Situational Control System) for real-time awareness and targeting information from any source (including drones) streamed directly to users’ smart devices and weapons.
  • The autonomous Grey GhostTM soldier-portable micro drone missile system that defends against small hostile drones including swarms using high-speed kinetic impact.
  • A Ground Laser Defence system to counter the emerging threat of weaponized lasers against personnel.
  • The PhantomTM electronic battlefield decoy system to mask the electromagnetic signature of friendly forces with decoy signatures at false locations to deceive and confuse adversaries.

All systems can operate stand-alone or integrate seamlessly with OEM products and battlefield management systems including Frontline, Edge, Killswitch and ATAK (Android Tactical Assault Kit) among others. KWESST also has developmental “smart ordnance” projects including its “Shot Counter” system, which records the number and type of rounds fired, for optimized firearms maintenance and performance.

The Company is headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, with representative offices in Washington, DC, London, UK and Abu Dhabi, UAE. KWESST trades on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol KWE.

TORONTO, ON / September 23, 2020 / Kontrol Energy Corp. (CSE:KNR)(OTCQB:KNRLF)(FSE:1K8) (“Kontrol” or “Company“) is pleased to provide a corporate update.

“Our team at Kontrol has been very busy since the completion of pre-commercialization testing through the independent labs,” says Paul Ghezzi, CEO of Kontrol. “We have now moved to the commercialization phase for the Kontrol BioCloud® analyzer (“BioCloud analyzer” or “BioCloud”) which includes further lab testing to establish the lower detection limits. In addition, we are pleased to share that BioCloud is receiving interest from potential customers and distribution partners and we are selecting key suppliers for commercialization. Our internal goal is to have BioCloud units commercially available in November 2020.”

Commercialization of BioCloud

As part of BioCloud’s commercialization plans, Kontrol will provide lower detection limits and operating specifications for the analyzer. (“CEMSI”), also a wholly owned operating subsidiary of Kontrol, will be the primary research, development, and integration entity for BioCloud.

Kontrol has commenced the trademark of the term Safe Space Technology and has initiated the patent registration for its intellectual property related to BioCloud.

Securing Supply Chain

Kontrol has selected a number of suppliers that will form part of BioCloud supply chain, and we will be announcing those names in the coming weeks, following the issuance of applicable purchase orders.

“While we are not making any claims about revenue at this time, we are building our global supply chain with the goal of being able to supply the market with up to 20,000 units per month,” says Gary Saunders VP of Kontrol. “We plan to have this substantially completed over the coming weeks.”

Strengthened Balance Sheet and Discussions for Additional Government Funding

As of September 22, 2020, the Company has received approximately $1 Million in cash from the exercise of common share options and warrants which has strengthened Kontrol’s balance sheet to advance BioCloud’s commercialization.

About Kontrol BioCloud

BioCloud is a real-time analyzer designed to detect airborne viruses. It has been designed to operate as a safe space technology by sampling the air quality continuously. With a proprietary detection chamber that can be replaced as needed, viruses are detected, and an alert system is created in the Cloud or over local intranet. BioCloud has been designed for spaces where individuals gather including classrooms, retirement homes, hospitals, mass transportation and others. PyroGenesis $PYR.ca Unveils Strategy to Become Global On-Site Dross Processor Delivering Zero-Landfill/Reduced Carbon Solution; Reduces GHG Emissions; Provides General DROSRITE™ Update $RTN $NOC $UTX $DDD.ca $SSYS $PRLB

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 10:04 AM on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020
  • Unveils today, at its Annual and Special Meeting of Shareholders, a strategy to become a global on-site dross processor delivering zero-landfill/reduced carbon, and further underscored how DROSRITE™ reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
  • Company is pleased to provide additional information with respect to this strategy as well as a general DROSRITE™ update in the following Q&A format

MONTREAL, Sept. 22, 2020 — PyroGenesis Canada Inc. (http://pyrogenesis.com) (TSX-V: PYR) (OTCQB: PYRNF) (FRA: 8PY), a high-tech company, (the “Company”, the “Corporation” or “PyroGenesis”) that designs, develops, manufactures and commercializes plasma atomized metal powder, plasma waste-to-energy systems and plasma torch systems, unveils today, at its Annual and Special Meeting of Shareholders, a strategy to become a global on-site dross processor delivering zero-landfill/reduced carbon, and further underscored how DROSRITE™ reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The Company is pleased to provide additional information with respect to this strategy as well as a general DROSRITE™ update in the following Q&A format.

Q. Before we jump into the essence of your announcement , could you once again, for those that are new to the DROSRITE™ story, please describe to us what DROSRITE™ is , and some of its many advantages?

A . Most certainly.

It’s simple. Let’s take an aluminum smelter as an example. As the hot aluminum is formed, it comes in contact with oxygen, and a dross is formed on the surface. This dross acts like a sponge and it effectively absorbs valuable metal. The smelter skims the dross and puts it aside to cool down. Although dross is considered a waste generated by the metallurgical industry, it contains valuable metal that the smelter would like to reclaim. Typically, the dross is sent off site to be processed by a third party who usually uses a salt-based recovery system. Salt, if it comes in contact with aluminum, could contaminate the batch and, as such, salt is usually prohibited from being on site and, ergo, the need to ship dross off-site to be processed. These third parties, who use salt, generate salt cakes, which are a hazardous by-product of their dross processing technique.

PyroGenesis’ DROSRITE™ system is a salt-free, cost-effective, sustainable process for maximizing metal recovery from dross. PyroGenesis’ patented process avoids costly loss of metal while reducing a smelter’s carbon footprint and energy consumption, thereby providing an impressive return on investment.

With metal manufacturers, such as aluminum, being subjected to increased pressure from regulatory authorities to eliminate landfilling of hazardous salt cakes from traditional recovery operations, combined with tight operating margins, PyroGenesis’ DROSRITE™ system is able to (i) increase metal recovery, without producing any hazardous by-products, while at the same time (ii) reducing operating costs.

In short, PyroGenesis’ DROSRITE™ system is a proven method of recovering valuable metal from dross that (i) is salt-free, so no hazardous by-products, (ii) can process the dross cheaper than conventional methods, and (iii) has demonstrated higher metal recovery rates. Non-hazardous, cheaper and with higher recovery rates, who could ask for more? The increased recovery rate alone could save an owner/operator over $1M/year using PyroGenesis’ 5000 tons/year DROSRITE™ system.

Our primary target is currently aluminum dross as this was the market, we first introduced the DROSRITE™ process to and, as you can imagine, it is much easier to leverage off of that success than to start marketing to a new sector.

Click on the link below to watch the DROSRITE™ video : https://www.pyrogenesis.com/products-services/maximizing-aluminum-recovery/

Since announcing several years ago our intention to enter this marketplace, we have (i) sold the first system for $600K, (ii) sold the second system to the same client for $1.02MM, (iii) sold 2 systems to a subsequent client, iv) the technology was used for a 7 system order for over $20MM, (v) developed a tolling strategy, and (vi) partnered with a Japanese multi-billion dollar trading house to accelerate that very same strategy.

Now that we are inside the fence, we now have the “Golden Ticket” to additional opportunities.

Q. What do you mean by inside the fence and more importantly G olden T ick et opportunities ?

A . By inside the fence, we are referring to the fact that DROSRITE™ system operates on site, i.e. inside the smelter’s facility. By Golden Ticket, we mean the opportunity it is created by operating inside the fence. By operating inside the fence, we are able to witness firsthand other challenges facing the industry and to speak to operators and plant managers with respect to these issues, which provide us with an ideal situation in which we can pitch solutions. Having this Golden Ticket essentially is how we came to articulate, and execute, the strategy unveiled today. We are effectively solving a (horizontal) problem we identified inside the fence.

Q. So, the strategy unveiled today was a s a result of being inside the fence?

A . Definitely.

We are proud to say that DROSRITE™ has compelling advantages in and of its own right, as is clearly demonstrated by our recent successes. A natural byproduct of treating dross is the creation of residues which have been easily handled in the past. Of late, there has been increased pressure to find alternate methods in handling residuals other than traditional landfilling. It was PyroGenesis’ strategic decision to address this problem through (i) its expertise, (ii) exclusive joint ventures, and/or (iii) acquisitions.

If successful, the combination of treating dross and residues will create what we believe to be one of the first, if not the first, global onsite dross processor delivering a zero-landfill/reduced carbon solution. We know of no other company offering this. We would be offering, in our opinion, the ultimate green solution to this problem. It would effectively be a formattable offering, which would, in our opinion, be difficult to compete against, thereby giving us a distinctive advantage over other options.

Q. Can you explain in more detail the difference between dross and residues?

A. Most certainly.

Dross is 60% metal and 40% residue. DROSRITE™ is recovering the 60% metal and because it does not contaminate the 40% residues with salt, it presents a unique additional value-added opportunity. These residues have the capacity to be converted into chemical and metallurgical products. This would be an easy expansion of our service offering to the aluminum industry such that PyroGenesis would build, install, and operate turn-key plants that are essentially a cradle to grave and zero landfill solution. This should significantly increase revenues and operating margins at a DROSRITE™ plant.

Q. Could you give us an example of what you mean by handling residu es other than traditional landfilling?

A. We believe we have clear visibility on creating valuable materials from these residuals which are often times landfilled. One example would be converting a particular residue into ammonium sulphate or aluminum sulphate, both high value chemical products. We effectively would be converting these landfilled products into useful commodities with obvious benefits to the environment. We have already demonstrated to the Board that this can be done economically.

Q. If I understand correctly, DROSRITE™ on its own reduces g reenhouse gas emissions and in addressing residu e s would be an additional environmental benefit?

A. Exactly.

DROSRITE™ has always reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Let me explain.

There are two main sources of greenhouse gas reduction:

  • Direct: mainly due to savings in (i) transportation and (ii) by not burning fossil fuels in a Rotary Salt Furnace (RSF)
  • Indirect: mainly due to the increased recovery of aluminum (less emissions than producing aluminum from primary resources)

The following table 1 summarizes the potential emissions reduction assuming all the dross produced in the world 2 was treated with DROSRITE™.

TOTAL 3,000,000 941,000 3,082,500 4,023,500 874,674

Therefore, more than 4 million tonnes of greenhouse gas can be reduced each year (which is the equivalent of removing close to 875,000 cars off the road each year) if the world’s aluminum dross was treated with DROSRITE™. According to the USEPA, an average passenger car in the US emits 4.6 tonnes per year of CO 2 3 . This equates to removing an average of 1,458 cars/year off the road, year in and year out, for each of PyroGenesis’ 5 tonnes systems, or close to 3,000 cars/year for each of the Company’s 10 tonnes systems.

Q. How does this affect your relationship with the Japanese trading house, and can you update the status with them ?

A. That is a very interesting question because the effective implementation of our strategy will make tolling a more compelling option to both us, as a provider and to potential clients, as we become a one-stop-shop/total solution for these problems. Our relationship with the Japanese trading house envisioned developing tolling opportunities by first starting in the Americas and then leveraging off that success worldwide. We are currently redrafting our agreement to address both (i) the impact of the strategy articulated today and (ii) a genuine interest by the Japanese trading house to develop a closer relationship with respect to our DROSRITE™ offerings.

Q. When might you expect further developments with respect to the strategy announced today?

A. As I said, we have clear visibility on putting in place this strategy and expect to announce something before year-end. We are confident enough in the eventual success that we have already proposed this new offering existing clients.

We are also in the process of incorporating this new offering in existing tolling opportunities and we expect it to be a significant differentiating factor in those situations that involved competitive bidding. We are the front runners in a number of tolling opportunities as well as a number of potential outright sales. Without a doubt, COVID-19 has slowed down the business development aspect of completing new contracts as many as our potential clients are managing the ever-changing COVID-19 environment with limited staff as certain facilities slowed down production and/or expansion due to the crisis. Of note, we have seen a turnaround as worldwide aluminum production increase to pre-COVID levels.

Ottawa, Ontario–(September 22, 2020) – KWESST Micro Systems Inc. (TSXV: KWE) (“KWESST” or “the Company”) today announced the successful completion of the first phase of three deliverables under a contract to support a U.S. military customer featuring the Company’s signature Tactical Awareness and Situational Control System” (“TASCS”).

This first deliverable under a $500,000 (CAD) contract demonstrated the TASCS Integrated Fires Module (“IFM”) on mortars and the Augmented Weapon Sight (“AWS”), a system developed by AeroVironment Inc. (“AeroVironment”) and KWESST to provide real-time situational awareness and targeting information. AWS streams Full Motion Video (“FMV”) from an overhead Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (“UAV” or “drone”) manufactured by AeroVironment into the TASCS architecture for the purpose of target identification, accurate first-shot hits and real-time Battle Damage Assessment (“BDA”). The AWS system has been an ongoing collaboration between KWESST and AeroVironment.

“These important military exercises demonstrate the maturity of the TASCS system,” said KWESST CEO Jeff MacLeod. “We are very pleased at the performance of the system and the valuable user feedback. We expect the next two contracted demonstration exercises later this year to attract added customer attention and the development of operating procedures that will be employed in more extensive exercises expected in early 2021.”

David Luxton, Executive Chairman, added, “Demonstration exercises like this with military customers are an important phase in the process towards potential introduction into service. It is very encouraging that this key U.S. military customer is scheduling additional exercises, and that at least two other NATO military customers have similar capability demonstration contracts under consideration.”

About TASCS, IFM and AWS

“TASCS” is an app and snap-on weapon adaptor that streams situational awareness and targeting information from any source directly to soldiers’ smart devices and their weapons systems for a leap ahead in safer and more effective engagement of adversaries. “IFM” is the variant of TASCS that integrates this capability into many short-range and long-range weapons systems, including grenade launchers and mortars. “AWS” utilizes the TASCS system to stream situational and targeting information from AeroVironment Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (“UAV”s, or “drones”) directly to the TASCS display on soldiers’ smart devices and weapons systems in real time.

TORONTO , Sept. 21, 2020 – Avicanna Inc. (” Avicanna ” or the ” Company “) (TSX: AVCN) (OTCQX: AVCNF) (FSE: 0NN), a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development, manufacturing and commercialization of plant-derived cannabinoid-based products, is pleased to announce that its advanced RHO Phyto Rapid Act Sprays are now officially available nationwide in Canada on the Medical Cannabis by Shoppers (” Shoppers “) portal, as well as through the Medical Cannabis Real-World Evidence Study at the University Health Network.

Avicanna’s RHO Phyto product line is now commercially available after years of research and development through collaborations with world class academic and clinical organizations. The development of RHO Phyto products has focused on the key properties in drug development that health care providers seek when recommending a medical product to their patients such as formulation stability for consistent dosing, enhanced absorption and a range of onset times.

The Rapid Act Spray is a sublingual spray and is among the second set of Avicanna’s RHO Phyto products available for purchase through Shoppers. The sublingual sprays bypass first-pass metabolism and are quickly absorbed in the mucosal lining under the tongue. The RHO Phyto Rapid Act Spray provides an alternative delivery form to the RHO Phyto Micro Drops (also available for sale through Shoppers) which are absorbed through the oral route. The RHO Phyto Rapid Act Sprays have been formulated with specific ingredients that enhance absorption and the onset time of cannabinoids across the mucous membrane beneath the tongue. The lemon-mint flavoured sprays will be available in 10:20 CBD and 2:40 (w/w) THC to CBD ratios.

Dr. Justin Grant , Avicanna’s Executive Vice President of Scientific Affairs, commented, “The RHO Phyto Rapid Act Sprays are designed for faster onset and can be used in acute conditions where patients seek faster relief. The sublingual sprays can also be used to supplement slower and longer acting products, such as the RHO Phyto Micro Drop, when occasional higher doses may be required. Sublingual administration provides an alternative to the potentially harmful effects of consuming inhalation products.”

In August 2020 , Avicanna launched its blood orange flavoured RHO Phyto Micro Drop 2:50 CBD and Micro Drop 5:20 CBD. In the coming months, Avicanna will be launching its much-anticipated RHO Phyto Deep Tissue Gel, Daily Cream and Simple Dose Capsules. To ensure batch-to-batch consistency and high-quality products, these formulations are manufactured at MediPharm Labs Inc, a Good Manufacturing Practices (” GMP “) certified facility. In addition to strict GMP manufacturing, all RHO Phyto products undergo GMP-level analytical testing by Sigma Analytical Services Inc. and use blockchain technology developed by TruTrace Technologies Inc. to manage, track and trace each step of the supply chain.

Detailed guidelines outlining dosing and titration for Health Care Practitioners (” HCPs “) and patients is available on the RHO Phyto website at www.rhophyto.com . In addition, the Avicanna Academy includes additional product information for patients, frequently asked questions, and a recording of Avicanna’s 3rd annual symposium which was hosted virtually in partnership with Shoppers on July 21, 2020. For more information visit https://www.avicanna.com/the-avicanna-academy/ .

The Company has also re-branded and re-launched its subsidiary, My Cannabis Clinic (formerly known as My Cannabis), which specializes in assisting patients to gain access to medical cannabis and cannabinoid-based products for medical use. My Cannabis Clinic is devoted to providing HCPs and patients with the support and education needed for medical cannabis use. My Cannabis Clinic believes in providing quality care to patients and providing education on the considerations and potential benefits that cannabis has to offer for medical use. • Announced that it has received a third Purchase Order for COVID-19 screening solutions from Are You Afraid of the Dark Inc., a Canadian horror anthology television miniseries based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
  • The initial P.O. is for approximately $210,000 for a month, commencing on October 5, 2020
  • This production is scheduled to run for three (3) months, totalling $630,000.
  • Datametrex anticipates that it will have little or no upfront costs associated with importing and selling these test kits

Toronto, Ontario–(September 21, 2020) –  Datametrex AI Limited (TSXV: DM) (FSE: D4G) (OTC Pink: DTMXF) (the “Company” or “Datametrex”) is pleased to announce that it has received a third Purchase Order (“P.O.”) for COVID-19 screening solutions from Are You Afraid of the Dark Inc., a Canadian horror anthology television miniseries based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The miniseries is produced by Nickelodeon Productions and distributed by MTV Networks in the United States and YTV in Canada, a Corus Entertainment company. Nickelodeon, now in its 41st year, is the number one entertainment brand for kids. Nickelodeon and all related titles, characters and logos are trademarks of Viacom Inc.

The initial P.O. is for approximately $210,000 for a month, commencing on October 5, 2020. This production is scheduled to run for three (3) months, totalling $630,000. Datametrex anticipates that it will have little or no upfront costs associated with importing and selling these test kits.

As previously stated, Vancouver is the third-largest production centre in North America, worth CDN $3.2 Billion during 2018/19, according to Creative BC. British Columbia is home to several world-class Film and TV studios, including Bridge Studios, Mammoth Studios, Vancouver Film Studios, North Shore Studios, Ironwood Studios, Canadian Motion Picture Park, and The Crossing Studios.

Entire film and TV production in Canada represent $8.92 Billion in production volume, and full-time equivalent jobs represent 179,000 workers. In March 2020, the industry stopped worldwide, including in Vancouver, which represents 37% of Canadian Productions. The surrounding areas of Vancouver had 46 productions filming, which does not include the TV commercial market. Each of the shows potentially had a minimum of 100 people in their film crew.1

The next largest film and television market is Ontario, which represents 34% of Canadian productions. In 2019, Toronto’s film and television industry directly employed more than 28,000 people representing $3.17 Billion in production volume.

Additionally, with Canada having far fewer cases of COVID-19 than in the United States on a per capita basis according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, it demonstrates that Canada is a safer jurisdiction for filming and an advocate for the film industry, with our testing kits, collection services and labs already set up.

“With Vancouver productions quickly returning to the studios and filming, we feel that this is the tip of the iceberg for new film business for COVID-19 screening business,” said Marshall Gunter, CEO of the Company.
