The World of EV’s Need Massive Supply of High Grade Lithium $FMR.ca $DGO.ca $BFF.ca $PFN.ca

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 2:45 PM on Wednesday, November 9th, 2016

  • The World of EV’s Need Massive Supply of High Grade Lithium
  • Experts say that the amount of lithium being produced in North America will not be enough to meet the growing demand for EVs (electrical vehicles) but that some of problem might/might not be alleviated via recycling,

According to a report from the US EPA: “lithium-ion batteries “safe” for disposal in contrast to nickel-cadmium and lead-based battery products.”

Here is the reason recycling is not happening: the scrap value of lithium is 1/10 the of the value of lead, hence low to no economic gains from lithium battery recycling.

Another article by Waste Management World acknowledges that electrical vehicle-makers would like to re-use lithium from recycled batteries, but that: It does not make any economic sense to recycle the batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries contain a very small fraction of lithium carbonate as a percent of weight and are inexpensive compared to cobalt or nickel.

The average lithium cost associated with Li-ion battery production is less than 3% of the production cost.

Intrinsic value for the Li-ion recycling business currently comes from the valuable metals such as cobalt and nickel that are more highly priced than lithium.

Due to less demand for lithium and low prices, none of the lithium used in consumer batteries is completely recycled.

There is a growing North America shortage of lithium for EVs (electric vehicles): There are at least 20 or 25 direct-electrically powered and hybrids coming onto the market in the next 5 or 6 years. They will come from auto manufactures in the US, Europe, Japan, China and Korea.

Many in the industry are aware, talking about and working on the problem of providing the high high grade lithium. The investment opportunities abound.

About 70% of the world’s lithium deposits are concentrated in Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. The US imports over 80% of the lithium it uses.

Japan and South Korea (LG is the world’s largest producer) have both marked record high numbers of lithium-ion battery exports in H-1 in Y 2016, as auto companies ramp up battery consumption to power new all-electric offerings,

Benchmark Mineral Intelligence said a month ago. Lithium-ion battery shipments from Japan topped 33,500 tonnes in 2-H, up 17% from 2-H of of 2015 and over 31% Y-Y.

Have a terrific week

  • Completed site visits to its wholly owned limestone properties located on the northwest coast of British Columbia
  • Total of twenty-four samples were taken on the properties and submitted for assay

Vancouver, BC / November 1, 2016 – Durango Resources Inc. (TSX.V-DGO), (the “Company” or “Durango”) reports that further to its news release of October 25, 2016, it has completed site visits to its wholly owned limestone properties located on the northwest coast of British Columbia.

A small exploration crew evaluated the site logistics and completed a small sampling program on the Smith Island and Mayner’s Fortune properties. The crew accessed the Mayner’s Fortune property by helicopter and nearby logging roads and and accessed the Smith Island property by helicopter. A total of twenty-four samples were taken on the properties and submitted for assay. The results will be provided as they become available.

Marcy Kiesman, CEO comments: “Durango originally obtained the limestone properties in northwestern BC to coincide with the potential LNG facilities which will require limestone for cement and aggregate. However, depending on the grade and quality of limestone, it has many other uses, including as a livestock feed additive and an additive to breads, cereals, toothpaste, papers, plastics, glass, paint, tiles, medicines and cosmetics. We look forward to advancing this compelling opportunity to bring value to our shareholders.”

The past producing Smith Island claims are located 6km southwest of Lelu Island, the proposed site of a pending $36 billion LNG facility that recently received conditional approval of the federal government. The Mayner’s Fortune claims are located approximately 7.5km southwest of Terrace, B.C., along the CN rail line between Terrace and Kitimat, B.C., where the proposed Royal Dutch Shell Consortium $40 billion LNG facility awaits a final investment decision.

Liberals approve Pacific NorthWest LNG project with environmental conditions $DGO.ca

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016

  • federal Liberal cabinet has approved construction of an $11.4-billion terminal to export liquefied natural gas from northern British Columbia
  • Catherine McKenna, who made the announcement late Tuesday in the Vancouver suburb of Richmond, outlined 190 conditions that Pacific NorthWest LNG must meet before building an export terminal on B.C.’s northern coast,
  • Cap on greenhouse gas emissions that would cut them nearly 20 per cent below what was first proposed

The federal Liberal cabinet has approved construction of an $11.4-billion terminal to export liquefied natural gas from northern British Columbia, subject to the project’s owners meeting an array of conditions designed to reduce the proposal’s environmental footprint.

Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna, who made the announcement late Tuesday in the Vancouver suburb of Richmond, outlined 190 conditions that Pacific NorthWest LNG must meet before building an export terminal on B.C.’s northern coast, including a cap on greenhouse gas emissions that would cut them nearly 20 per cent below what was first proposed.

Environmentalists have argued the project, and the increased greenhouse gas emissions that come with it, would be inconsistent with Canada’s climate commitments, while the B.C government says the exported fuel would reduce emissions from coal-fired plants in Asia. Some First Nations have warned the terminal would harm the local salmon population.

Related: What you need to know about B.C.’s climate plan

“The only way to get resources to market in the 21st century is if they can be done in a responsible and sustainable manner. This decision reflects this objective,” Ms. McKenna said Tuesday.

For nearly four years, B.C. Premier Christy Clark has been touting the economic potential of the fledgling LNG industry, but no projects have been built in the province yet. “It has been a lot of very, very hard work,” Ms. Clark said. “This is a project that will benefit all Canadians.”

The energy venture is led by Malaysia’s state-owned Petronas, which must now reach a decision with its partners to proceed with Pacific NorthWest LNG, though global LNG markets are experiencing a surplus of supply.

Ms. McKenna, Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr and Fisheries Minister Dominic LeBlanc announced the approval in Richmond.

In a statement, the federal government said the decision imposes “a maximum cap on annual project greenhouse gas emissions. This cap means direct greenhouse gas emissions from the project will be capped at a maximum of 4.3 million tonnes of equivalent carbon dioxide per year, 900,000 tonnes less than what had initially been proposed by the proponent.”

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency concluded the project near Prince Rupert would result in a significant increase in greenhouse gas emissions, even as federal and provincial governments aim to conclude a national deal this fall to dramatically reduce emissions. Environmentalists, some First Nations and a group of scientists also argue that Pacific NorthWest LNG’s choice to build the export terminal on Lelu Island would threaten juvenile salmon habitat in the Skeena River estuary.

The regulator, however, said the terminal and related infrastructure such as a suspension bridge would not cause major ecological damage to a sandbar called Flora Bank. The Allied Tsimshian Tribes of Lax Kw’alaams say Flora Bank and Lelu Island are part of their traditional territory.

Constructing Pacific NorthWest LNG would be a massive shot in the arm for the B.C. economy. The consortium estimates the total cost at $36-billion by its completion in 2021, including the construction of the liquefaction terminal and pipelines that would connect with natural gas supplies; Petronas’s $5.2-billion acquisition of Progress Energy Canada in 2012; and $12-billion in drilling and natural gas production in northeastern B.C. needed to feed the plant. The overall price also includes TransCanada Corp.’s commitment to build two related pipelines at a cost of $6.7-billion.

In its draft report in February, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency said Pacific NorthWest LNG’s proposal to build the export terminal would likely harm harbour porpoises and contribute to climate change.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet, which met on Tuesday morning in Ottawa, had until Oct. 3 to render a decision in what has been a lengthy regulatory process dating back to 2013.

Pacific NorthWest LNG is considered the front-runner among 20 B.C. LNG proposals. But with the world awash in LNG supplies, low prices in Asia for the fuel have rendered most B.C. proposals uneconomic, industry experts say.

“After a rigorous and comprehensive regulatory process, Pacific NorthWest LNG is pleased that the government of Canada has issued an environmental decision statement to our project,” the consortium’s president, Adnan Zainal Abidin, said in a release. “Moving forward, Pacific NorthWest LNG and our shareholders will conduct a total project review over the coming months prior to announcing next steps for the project.”

In anticipating the approval Tuesday, Conservative interim leader Rona Ambrose said the Liberal government must now work to ensure the LNG terminal gets built.

“We believe strongly that now that it’s approved, the Prime Minister needs to champion the project,” Ms. Ambrose said. “He needs to make this project important, not only for British Columbians, but for all Canadians. This is a project that will create thousands of jobs, create billions of dollars in investments and it is a project that’s absolutely necessary for the prosperity of this country.”

Aboriginal leaders from the Wet’suwet’en, Gitanyow, Lake Babine and Gitxsan say Pacific NorthWest LNG’s proposed site is the wrong place to locate an LNG export terminal because of the risks to salmon habitat in the estuary of the Skeena River, near Lelu Island. They say their views have been largely ignored because their land is farther away from Lelu Island than other First Nations.

But Pacific NorthWest LNG has pointed out that it has consulted with five Tsimshian First Nations – the Metlakatla, Kitselas, Gitxaala, Kitsumkalum and Lax Kw’alaams. While four of those groups have signed term sheets that are intended to lead to impact benefit agreements, the Lax Kw’alaams First Nation is the holdout.

The Gitga’at First Nation remains upset at the B.C. government’s previous consultation process, which excluded the aboriginal group from being fully recognized in a provincial environmental assessment of Pacific NorthWest LNG.

“Lelu Island will still be a hard sell. Pacific NorthWest LNG doesn’t have a clear path, and First Nations along the Skeena River aren’t not going to roll over on this,” said Art Sterritt, a spokesman for the Gitga’at.

He said Gitga’at leaders are open to LNG development as long as there are safeguards to protect the environment, and the Gitga’at will first need to study the conditions placed on the Lelu Island terminal before deciding whether to support or oppose construction.

Interpretation of Lithium, Cesium, Tantalum, and Rubidium Anomalies

Results from the exploration program at NMX East clearly indicate the presence of three distinct pegmatite intrusions which exhibit significant lithium, cesium, tantalum, and rubidium anomalies. One intrusion occurs on the property’s East Block, while two intrusions occur on the South Block.

The Nemiscau Region exhibits a markedly limited amount of bedrock exposure, which produces a very challenging environment for surface sampling. On average, there is approximately less than 5% exposure on the NMX East property and a large portion of the surrounding region. Evidence suggests that the majority of pegmatite bodies in the Nemiscau Region are obscured beneath the glacial diamict which blankets the region. Nemaska Lithium Inc.’s recent drilling results also report mineralized intercepts as deep as 500 metres below surface (2). As such, Durango’s geological team suspects the three viable lithium-bearing LCT pegmatites, which occur at surface on Durango’s NMX East property, may represent smaller exposures of potentially much larger intrusions which may continue both at depth, laterally, and along strike.

Furthermore, most LCT pegmatites exhibit concentric zonation, particularly of spodumene (Li), pollucite (Ce), columbite-tantalite (Ta), and beryl (Be) mineralization. This mineralization is typically concentrated in the core margin to core zone of the pegmatite intrusion, with dilute quantities in the intermediate zone. This zonation is illustrated in Figure 2.

Durango’s geological team therefore interprets these moderate lithium, cesium, tantalum, and strong rubidium anomalies at surface to be a potential indication of significant spodumene mineralization at depth. The next steps at NMX East will include extensive stripping and/or drilling of these mapped pegmatite intrusions in order to determine the real nature and extent of the intrusive bodies.

Marcy Kiesman, CEO of Durango, comments, “The results from this campaign indicate the existence of three newly-discovered LCT pegmatite intrusions on the NMX East property and serve as an excellent first step in the progression of the project. Lithium-bearing pegmatites are a complex deposit type, considering the zonation and nature of mineralization within the intrusions and the challenging region in which they choose to manifest. Durango is exceptionally pleased to have discovered three distinct LCT pegmatite intrusions on the property and plans to explore these targets further in the coming exploration season, by means of stripping and drilling.”

All samples were grab samples and were analyzed by ALS Minerals, Val-d’Or (Quebec). The analytical methods used correspond to ALS codes ME-MS81 and Be-ICP81.

  • lithium bearing pegmatites were discovered on its property that is adjacent to Nemaska Lithium Inc.’s (TSX-NMX) Whabouchi Project
  • Anomalous lithium assays were grabbed from surface exposed pegmatites outcrops identified by high definition satellite imagery

Vancouver, BC / September 20, 2016 – Durango Resources Inc. (TSX.V-DGO), (the “Company” or “Durango”) reports that further to its news release of September 13, 2016, lithium bearing pegmatites were discovered on its property that is adjacent to Nemaska Lithium Inc.’s (TSX-NMX) Whabouchi Project.

Durango’s anomalous lithium assays were grabbed from surface exposed pegmatites outcrops identified by high definition satellite imagery. No trenching or blasting was completed on the first phase reconnaissance program which took place in August 2016, as the scope of the program was limited to identifying pegmatites and sampling for lithium values.

Durango has discovered anomalous lithium bearing pegmatites sampled by a simple grab sample. From all the pegmatites discovered and sampled, 25 returned anomalous lithium values ranging from 50 to 320 ppm or 0.032%Li.

Exploration on Nemaksa Lithium’s claims has been ongoing since 1962 and has been worked on by various companies over the years. Nemaska Lithium is the eighth company to work the block of claims and began their work in 2009 by property visits and grab sampling. According to the Nemaska Lithium’s 43-101 report, Canico completed the first work in the area in 1962-63 and drilled 5 holes with the best result being 1.44% Li2O over 83.2m. Forty years later (2002), Inco tested the same pegmatite while exploring for Tantalum with results up to 0.026% Ta over 1 m in a channel sample. The lithium results returned by Inco ranged from 0.14%Li to 1.73% Li over a 1 m channel on the same spodumene-bearing pegmatite.*

Durango’s pegmatites with the lithium results can be easily accessed to trench and blast, or possibly commence drilling, to determine the extent of the pegmatites and to obtain fresh rock samples (not exposed to weathering and erosion) to determine Li content. Cesium levels ranged up to 80.9ppm, tantalum levels up to 77.1ppm and rubidium up to 2140 ppm which is typical of LCT (lithium, cesium tantalum) pegmatites. Pegmatites exploited for lithium are usually of the LCT type.

Marcy Kiesman, CEO of Durango comments: “Durango is highly encouraged by the geological discovery of the lithium-bearing pegmatites so proximal to the Whabouchi project. This discovery has greatly increased our odds of hosting a LCT (Lithium, Cesium, Tantalum) type deposit adjacent to Nemaska Lithium Inc. As such, Durango has asked Donald Theberge to prepare a report with phase two exploration program recommendations which will be announced as soon as it is available.”

The technical contents of this release were approved by Mr. Donald Theberge, PEng., MBA, a qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101. The property has not been subject of a National Instrument 43-101 report.
