(CSE: FANS) (OTC Pink: FUNFF) (“FansUnite” or the “Company”), a technology company providing leading online gaming solutions, is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary McBookie Ltd (“McBookie”) closed out October with the highest increase in monthly revenue and gross margin in the company’s 10-year history.

The UK Sportsbook set company records with triple-digit growth in multiple areas, led by a 433% increase in overall revenue compared to October 2019 and a total Gross win of $602K CAD during the month. Much of the growth was attributed to the unveiling of McBookie’s live casino games and increased activity in sports betting which resulted in $7.3M in total betting volume being placed during the month.

Casino Segment

McBookie’s new Live Casino product, encompassing multiple tables and variations of blackjack, roulette and baccarat, all with live real dealers, garnered substantial interest from online bettors.

During the month:

  • Betting volume (“Turnover”) was $5.1M CAD, an increase of 460% as compared to October 2019.
  • Gross Win was $197K CAD an increase of 679% as compared to October 2019.

Sports Segment

McBookie added new features, including ‘bet builder’, which enables online bettors to fully customize and build their bets across any number of markets, and instantly receive a price on their desired wager. The user-friendly feature combined with a full slate of English soccer fixtures and the Scottish National Soccer Team’s presence in the prestigious UEFA European Championship qualifiers, helped propel the company to new financial heights.

During the month:

  • Betting volume (“Turnover”) was $2.2M CAD, an increase of 188% as compared to October 2019.
  • Gross Win was $405K CAD, an increase of 363% as compared to October 2019.

November 4 – Serie A’s AC Milan has entered the esports with a strategic partnership with Italian organisation QLASH to form a new team that will be called AC Milanm QLASH.

The new team will compete in both EA Sports’ FIFA 21 competitions as well as individual and team combat game Brawl Stars.

QLASH already has players in both games and AC Milan QLASH will debut at the Brawl Stars World Finals later this month. Paris St Germain, who have expanded their esports activity beyond the football video game platforms, will also be at the Brawl Stars finals.

Casemiro strikes

Football links to esports is not just confined to clubs. Brazil and Real Madrid midfielder Carlos Henrique Casemiro has launched an esports team called CaseEsports.

His team will play on the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive game platform and already has a number of players signed up who will be based in a gaming house in Madrid.

Casimiro has already lined up a number of sponsors for CaseEsports including gaming chair maker Drift, HyperX, Spanish glasses maker Hawkers, and BŮH.

The team will debut officially in the upcoming DreamHack  Open qualifiers in December.

How Has COVID-19 Impacted Esports and Its Technology Needs?

  • When COVID-19 halted traditional sports events in March, the esports industry quickly pivoted and offered virtual entertainment with professional traditional sports players in various events, from the Madden NFL Invitational to NASCAR’s virtual racing, which became the highest-rated televised esports event ever.
  • Esports is a rapidly growing industry, with $4.5 billion of investments in 2018, up from the $490 million in 2017, according to Deloitte. Industry revenue is expected to reach $1.6 billion by 2023, per a Newzoo figure on Statista (see below).

While traditional sports are now beginning to return, esports is not going anywhere. Unsurprisingly, it maintained its momentum and even increased its audience through online streaming options during quarantine. In March alone, Twitch’s viewership increased 10% and YouTube Gaming by 15%, according to a VentureBeat graphic on Statista. With such a leap in engagement, gamers, professional teams, and collegiate programs are evaluating their AV technology and remote production investments or risk getting left behind.

“COVID-19 has changed the game. Instead of these massive venues, the games are now happening completely remote. The demand for LED displays has been replaced with the need for better broadcast technology with remote capabilities,” states Jared Darensbourg, senior sales manager at Panasonic. “Instead of airing the broadcast on ABC or NBC, the production now streams live to Twitch, YouTube, or other social media platforms that encourage engagement.”

Gamers can use remote production technology to livestream every minute of gameplay while traditional sports announcers share live commentary. Studio-oriented cameras allow the audience to view both the gamer and announcer’s reactions in real-time, making it as dramatic as it would in-person.

“The ability to have high-quality, high-resolution cameras with zero latency is a big component when it comes to gaming or producing games,” notes Darensbourg. “The time between when an action happens on your screen to when you see it on your active display is critical. That fast network as well as 4K content improves the audience experience.”

Socially distanced events could utilize projectors and displays to showcase stats and highlights to recreate the energy of live competitions with in-person audiences. Cameras to pan the arena and feature individual players can also enhance visuals for at-home viewers.

Thus, the demand for broadcast cameras with remote capabilities has increased. “Panasonic PTZ cameras have been successful in this online streaming transition because of its functionality, features, and control system,” says Hamid James, product manager at Panasonic. “The ability to output various resolutions is critical to its success. With PTZ cameras, esports venues and esports directors can pick and choose what format and quality they want to output to the end user, as well as have the flexibility to be able to output to those different social media and streaming platforms without needing any additional hardware.”

Remote esports tournaments could also further venture into virtual reality, which Riot Games has utilized in past opening ceremonies for the League of Legends World Championship, from an augmented reality dragon landing on the stadium to a holographic hip hop performance. “A 3D protocol outputs positioning data and allows you to use the PTZ camera in an AR/VR environment,” concludes James. “Much of gaming uses Unreal Engine, and the PTZ camera integrates directly with that platform via plugin. This is a crucial feature if you want to create a virtual environment because people can’t actually get there, or even just create an engaging experience moving forward.”

Twitch and esports go together like a dusting of salt on top of a chocolate chip cookie: the sweetness of victory etc., tempered by the saltiness of defeat. Today, Twitch launches Versus — a suite of competitive tools that will let creators on the site organize and manage their own tournaments — which promises to bring those agonies and ecstasies to any streamer who feels like pubstomping their community.

While the feature is in closed beta for now, collegiate esports leagues, game devs, and Twitch Rivals competitors (along with some other Twitch streamers) will have access starting today. There is a waitlist you can join if you’re interested in trying out Versus for yourself.

Obviously, this isn’t Twitch’s first foray into esports. Twitch Rivals has been hosting competitions between streamers and pros since last year, and in April, the company rolled out an esports directory to keep viewers updated on the latest tournaments. What’s interesting about Versus is how it’s very similar to Facebook Gaming’s Tournaments. Twitch is playing catch-up! Even so, it’s cool to see good ideas make their way further into the mainstream.
