  • In 2020 the Company’s primary objective was to follow up on recommendations made in the 2019 River Valley Palladium Project Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA).
  • The River Valley Palladium Project is one of North America’s largest undeveloped primary Platinum Group Metal (PGM) projects. The Project has excellent infrastructure and is within 100 kilometres of the Sudbury Metallurgical Complex. The Project is 100% owned by New Age Metals.
  • The Company completed a three-phase exploration and development plan at River Valley which included drilling, environmental, and archaeological studies.
  • The Company also completed follow-up mapping and sampling programs on its Lithium One Project in Southeast Manitoba. The program was co-funded by the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce’s, Manitoba Mineral Development Fund (MMDF). In December the Company received a drill permit for its Lithium Two Project and a permit is pending for Lithium One. Further drill target definition surveys are being contemplated for 2021.
  • The Company is expecting results and corresponding press releases from both its rhodium evaluation program at River Valley and the surface sampling program from its Lithium One Project in Manitoba before the end of January 2021.
  • The spot price of an ounce of Palladium increased by over 18% in the last year, to $US2,220/oz as at December 21, 2020. Rhodium, which is also present at River Valley, has seen a price increase of over 160% year-to-date to $US16,000/ oz.
  • The Company is actively seeking an option/joint venture partner for our Genesis PGM-Cu-Ni Project in Alaska and for our Lithium division in Manitoba.

December 22, 2020 – Rockport, Canada – New Age Metals Inc. (TSXV:NAM ) | ( OTC:NMTLF ) | ( FSE:P7J) Harry Barr, Chairman & CEO, stated ; “We are pleased to provide shareholders with a year end review of our activities in 2020 and a view of our exploration and development plans for our portfolio of green metal projects in 2021.”

The Company’s primary objective this year was to follow-up on recommendations made in the 2019 River Valley Project PEA. To that end we have completed a three-phase exploration and development plan which included two rounds of drilling, initiated environmental baseline and archaeological studies, and have commenced a phase one rhodium evaluation program with the objective of including rhodium as a payable metal.

As we progress into 2021, we are focused on advancing River Valley to a Prefeasibility study. This would include recommendations to complete metallurgy, hydrogeology, geotechnical surveys, an updated mineral resource estimate, environmental baseline, infill and exploration drilling. Management is currently soliciting quotes from third party engineering firms with the objective of completing a final Prefeasibility budget by the end of February 2021. Subject to the completion of additional funding we plan to initiate this study by the third quarter of 2021 and our objective is to complete the Prefeasibility study by the end of the first quarter of 2022.

Genesis PGM-Cu-Ni Project

The Genesis PGM-Cu-Ni Project is an under explored, highly prospective drill ready property. In 2020 NAM’s management continued to seek an option/joint-venture partner for this road accessible PGM-Cu-Ni Project using the Prospector Generator business model. COVID-19 disrupted property visits which in turn hindered any finalization of a potential option / joint venture deal. The Company paid for all holding costs in 2020 and the project remains in good standing. The stable land status, ease of access and superb infrastructure make this project prospective for year-around exploration, and development.

2020 Exploration and 2021 Plans for Lithium Division

The Company has several Lithium and Rare Element Projects in the Winnipeg River Pegmatite Field, located in South East Manitoba and situated around the Tanco Mine. The world-class Tanco Pegmatite is a highly fractionated lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT)–type pegmatite that has historically been mined (Tanco Mine) since 1969 for Li, Ta, Cs, Rb and Be ores. The Tanco Pegmatite is a very rich tantalum and cesium deposit with it being the world’s most significant and richest known source of cesium representing more than two-thirds of the world’s reserve.

In 2020, the company conducted a follow-up round of surface exploration work on its Lithium One Project to generate future drill targets. This program was co-funded by a grant from Manitoba Chamber of Commerce’s, Manitoba Mineral Development Fund (MMDF). Over 80 samples have been sent to a laboratory in Saskatchewan and results are expected in January. Samples from a previous work program on the project were taken from the Silverleaf and Annie pegmatites and not only returned significant Li20 assays of up to 4.1% but heightened levels of Rubidium Oxide (Rb2O).

Management plans to make a second application for a grant from the MMDF in 2021. In December 2020 the Company received a drill permit for its Lithium Two Project and the application for a permit on Lithium One was submitted to the Manitoba government. The Company continues to solicit potential option/joint venture partner(s) to continue the development of its Lithium division.

About the River Valley Palladium Project

The details of the updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) and Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) were announced in the press release dated August 9, 2019 and are described on NAM’s website. The pit constrained Updated Mineral Resource Estimate formed the basis of the PEA . At a cut-off grade of 0.35 g/t PdEq, the Updated Mineral Resource Estimate contains 2.867 Moz PdEq in the Measured plus Indicated classifications and 1.059 Moz PdEq in the Inferred classification. The PEA is a preliminary report, but it demonstrates that there are potentially positive economics for a large-scale mining open pit operation, with 14 years of Palladium production. About Iceland

Iceland climate, location, access and infrastructure (Histed,R,2010)

Located in the North Atlantic, approximately midway between Greenland and Great Britain, the warm North Atlantic Current ensures that the climate in Iceland, described as subpolar, oceanic, has generally higher temperatures than locations of similar latitude throughout the world. Regions or places that have similar climate are Tierra del Fuego, the Aleutian Islands and Alaskan Peninsula. Although Iceland lies close to the Arctic, its coasts remain ice-free year-round.

As can be expected, the southern coast is generally warmer, wetter and windier than the northern coast. The lower-lying, inland areas in the north are the most arid, although snowfall in the north during the winter months is greater than in the south.

Historically, recorded temperature extremes for the country are 30.5 C and -38.0C. The high in Reykjavik was 26.2C in 2008, and the low there was -24.5C in 1918. Although the Icelandic climate can be harsh, the GI-Melmi JV completed a drilling program at Thormodsdalur (Thor Gold Project) from November 2005 through May 2006 without undue difficulty. In the north, the increased snowfall would make an effort such as this more difficult. Reconnaissance is to be limited to the summer months.

Iceland’s infrastructure is well developed and modern. Road construction was begun around the start of the 20th century and peaked during the 1980’s. The roads are well constructed and maintained asphalt, although some gravel roads are still found. The current road system connects most of the larger towns and villages and is mostly confined to the coastal areas. Currently, there are a total of 12,691 kilometers of roads in Iceland that includes 3,262 kilometers of paved surface. Inland road access diminishes to dirt roads to no roads making access to some areas difficult, requiring foot travel or helicopter support. There are no railroads in Iceland.

Geological Setting

Iceland occurs at the junction of two large physical structures; the Mid Atlantic Ridge and the Greenland-Iceland-Faeroes Ridge (Figure 9). At this intersection, the mantle is hotter and less dense than the surrounding mantle. The mantle material rises as a result of heat and chemical-related density differences resulting in a dome in the crust above. This hotspot is causing a higher rate of extrusive volcanism at this point on the Mid Atlantic Ridge, which has, in turn, caused the region to be built up to a level more than 3 kilometers above the surrounding seafloor and covers an area of more than 350,000 km2. This is known as the Iceland Basalt Plateau. The portion of the plateau above sea level is now the country of Iceland (Martin, et al., 2007).

Tectonic Setting

In the Mid Atlantic Rift environment, the central portions of Iceland have moved outwards, away from the zones of active rifting and crustal development such that oldest rocks occur towards the margins and youngest in the center. Due to the migration of the hotspot to the south-east with time, an asymmetry has been imparted to the shape of the island. Currently, the hotspot lies under the south-eastern quadrant of the island (Corbett, 2004). This area now denotes the zone of active rifting and volcanism. Figure 10 shows the geology of Iceland defined by tectonic zones that coincide with the ages of the rocks.

Principal Tectonic Zones

The significant rift systems that have focused volcanism through time are noted below.

  • – The Snaefellsnes-Skagi Rift Zone in western Iceland was active in the 16-6.5 m.y. period. – The Reykjanes-Langjokull Rift Zone in central western Iceland resulted in the development of the Reykjanes Peninsula from about 6 my. – The North Volcanic Rift Zone became active from 3-4 my and extends to the present time. – An Eastern Volcanic Rift Zone is developing at this time.

Significant quantities of felsic intrusive and extrusive rocks occur in the dominantly basaltic sequence, and the felsic rocks locally display gold-anomalous hydrothermal alteration (Corbett, 2004).

Structurally, NE fractures reflect the spreading centre direction and are, therefore, some of the most numerous and laterally extensive fracture patterns, commonly evident as normal faults that may be exploited by dykes. NS and ENE fractures are developed as conjugate fractures during the NW-SE extension.

September 29, 2020 –  Rockport, Canada – New Age Metals Inc. (NAM) (TSXV:NAM ) ; ( OTC:NMTLF ) ; ( FSE:P7J) (“NAM” or the “Company”) NAM is pleased to announce its Q4 2020 program for the River Valley Palladium Project near Sudbury, Ontario. The primary focus of the program is a Phase 1 of a multi-phase rhodium assay program designed to prove-up the world’s most valuable metal as a payable component of River Valley. Chairman & CEO Harry Barr stated; “We have seen the price of rhodium run from $6,050 an ounce to a high of $13,800 this year and the company plans to investigate the potential economic metal credit that rhodium offers at River Valley. We know the project contains rhodium as evidenced by its presence in our latest Mineral Resource Estimate. However, rhodium was not included as a payable metal in our 2019 Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA), due to insufficient number of assays and limited metallurgical recovery information. The Mineral Resource Estimation work completed to date shows over 25,000 ounces of rhodium in the Measured plus Indicated resource classification and an additional 20,000 ounces in the Inferred classification. The highest-grade rhodium assay is 0.873 g/t Rh for drill core from the Lismer North Ridge Zone . The first phase of the rhodium work will focus on the northern area of the Project, where initial production would potentially begin as determined in the 2019 PEA Study. This potential metal credit may be significant at current pricing and our objective is to complete sufficient re-assaying and metallurgy to prove that rhodium could provide up to 5% of the Project’s payable metal package”.

Rhodium Market

Rhodium (Rh), one of the six Platinum Group Metals, is a silver-white metallic element that is highly reflective and strongly resistant to corrosion. Rh’s primary use is in catalytic converters of automobiles, where it reduces the amount of nitrogen oxides (NOx) exhaust gases emitted into the atmosphere. In 2019, almost 90% of rhodium demand was from the auto-catalyst sector . Rh is a very special metal in terms of its performance in converting NOx into harmless gases, and will continue to be the metal of choice for the control of NOx .

Mined supply of Rh in 2019 was over 750,000oz and recycled supply was 315,000oz, resulting in a deficit of approximately 50,000oz. Rh supply is inelastic to demand for various reasons: Rh content in the earth’s crust is extremely rare, and the metal is mined as a by-product of platinum and palladium mining or nickel mining. There is no such thing as a primary Rh mine, and the major producers are all located in South Africa . South Africa produces over 85% of the global Rh supply annually, with majority of this supply being generated by the mining companies listed below (Rh production listed as a percentage of overall mining production):

  • – Sibanye Stillwater (2019 Rh production, 7% overall contributed 22% of revenue) – Anglo Platinum (H12020 Rh production, 7.5% overall contributed 34% of revenue) – Impala Platinum (H12020 Rh production, 6.5% overall contributed 25% of revenue)

Rhodium Assay Program

Rhodium (Rh), the world’s most valuable metal (US$ 12,000/oz as of September 28, 2020),
is present with palladium and platinum at the River Valley Deposit (Figure 1). However, the amount of existing Rh assays is relatively small and their spatial distribution limited, due to the high cost of assaying. The highest-grade rhodium assay is 0.873 g/t Rh for a core sample from the Lismer North Zone . Rhodium is included in the 2001, 2012, 2018 and 2019 Mineral Resource Estimates. Rhodium grades in the 2019 Mineral Resource Estimate (Table 1) are based on
Rh assay data for 7,471 drill core samples and 2,641 channel samples, for a total of 10,112 assays. Of these, 8,268 core and channel sample Rh assays records are for the Dana North Zone,
1,338 core and channel sample Rh assay records for the Dana South Zone, and 506 core sample assays for the Lismer Zones: there are no Rh assays available in the database for the Pardo, Pine, Banshee, Lismer Ridge, Varley, Azen, and Razor zones . Clearly, the Rh assay data distribution is highly concentrated at Dana North. Furthermore, the rhodium mineral hollingworthite (Rh, Pt, Pd) AsS has been identified during mineralogical and metallurgical testwork studies of drill core from Dana North and Dana South. Although included in the 2019 Mineral Resource Estimate for the River Valley Palladium deposit, Rh was excluded in the 2019 Preliminary Economic Assessment as payable metal in the Net Smelter Return estimates.

In addition, a relatively small amount of additional Rh assay data (337 analyses) are available for core samples analyzed during an academic research project and for surface grab samples (158) assayed during exploration programs. The highest grades were 0.372 g/t Rh for the core and 0.309 g/t Rh for the surface grab samples. However, these data cannot be used directly for Mineral Resource Estimation purposes.

The Rhodium Assay Program for Q4 2020 is to be based on re-assaying available drill core samples for Rh. The drill holes to be sampled will be carefully selected from representative drill cross-sections of priority zones, primarily Pine Zone and possibly Dana South and Lismer North. Samples from mineralized core intervals above the lower cut-off grade and adjacent material are to be submitted to an appropriate laboratory for PGM assay with enhanced detection limits.
In addition to Rh (and palladium platinum and gold), the minor PGM ruthenium (Ru) and iridium (Ir) will also be assayed. The Q4 2020 work will be Phase 1 of a multi-phase program . Pending results and progress, the follow-up phases of work will include more sampling and assaying and mineralogical and metallurgical testwork, in order to ultimately prove-up rhodium as a payable metal for the River Valley Project.

Additional Activities for Q4 2020

Additional activities planned for Q4 regarding River Valley include environmental baseline studies, archaeological assessments, and development of new exploration targets for field validation and testing in 2021. The environmental baseline studies will involve a second round of surface water quality sampling and flow measurement. Exploration targeting will continue to focus on footwall mineralization, though at the Dana South Zone in addition to the Pine Zone-T3 target. The interior of the River Valley Intrusion will also be re-evaluated for the possibility of MT and gravity surveys to aid development of targeting models for contact-type PGM deposits.

  • The results confirm presence of the Pine Zone mineralization.

September 24, 2020 – Rockport, Canada – New Age Metals Inc. (NAM) (TSXV:NAM ) ; ( OTC:NMTLF ) ; ( FSE:P7J) (“NAM” or the “Company”) New Age Metals announces results from the Phase 2 exploration drill program and surface prospecting activities at its 100% owned River Valley Palladium Project near Sudbury, Ontario. Reported herein are the assay results for holes drilled to test Pine Zone and T3 targets and
high-grade mineralized surface samples from the footwall to the east of the Dana South Zone. Phase Three plans are discussed below in the release and its final plan will be announced before the end of September.

Drill Results

Holes T3-20-03, T3-20-04 and PZ-20-07 were drilled in Q3 2020 for a total of 792 metres
(Figure 1; Table 1). Hole T3-20-03 was drilled as an infill hole within the Pine Zone-T3 Target. The hole intersected three mineralized intervals: 1) 5 metres grading 0.21 g/t Pd+Pt+Au and 0.05% Cu or 0.30 g/t PdEq from 236 metres down hole; 2) 9 metres grading 0.27 g/t Pd+Pt+Au and 0.02% Cu or 0.32 g/t PdEq from 247 metres downhole; and 3) 6 metres grading 0.30 g/t Pd+Pt+Au and 0.02% Cu or 0.37 g/t PdEq from 259 metres downhole. The results confirm presence of the Pine Zone mineralization.

Hole T3-20-04 was drilled to expand the boundaries of the Pine Zone-T3 Target eastwards and southwards. The hole intersected the favourable Breccia Unit, but failed to intersect significant intervals of mineralization. Best assay result is 1 metre grading 0.64 g/t Pd+Pt+Au and 0.02% Cu from 307 metres downhole.

PZ-20-07 was drilled to test an IP chargeability feature 250 m east along strike from the Pine Zone. The hole was abandoned at 166 metres depth, due to the presence of lengthy intersections of heavy pyrite coatings on fractures in core of the Archean basement. No assays were generated, but the IP chargeability feature is explained.

Mineral Prospecting

Mineral prospecting activities in Q3 2020 focused on Dana South and Pardo Zones (Figure 2).
At the Dana South Zone, the covered area between the eastern boundary of the mineral resources and the western shoreline of Dana Lake was prospected and sampled. Samples collected from here previously returned assays of up to 4.91 g/t Pd+Pt+Au and 0.25% Cu (see press released dated December 6, 2016). The purpose of returning was to confirm the presence of the favourable River Valley Breccia Unit and Cu-Fe sulphide mineralization in outcrop.

Significant assays were returned for seven of the 14 outcrop samples (Table 2). The highest assay result is a remarkable 8.29 g/t Pd+Pt+Au and 0.24% Cu . Evidently, the confirmed surface mineralization means that either the footprint of the Dana South Zone is larger than the modelled mineral resources or it represents discovery of a potential new zone located approximately 50 m to 100 m to the east of Dana South. The surface mineralized area is planned to be stripped and drilled when conditions allow in 2021.

At Pardo, the northernmost mineralized zone of the River Valley Deposit (2 km north-northeast of
Dana North; Figure 3), four samples were taken to confirm the presence of surface mineralization indicated in historic sampling. Three of the four samples returned assays indicative of palladium mineralization (Table 2). The highest assay result was 1.46 g/t Pd+Pt+Au and 0.12% Cu.
With such confirmed indications of palladium mineralization on surface, and in historic drilling (eleven holes drilled in 2004), Pardo Zone is under consideration for additional mineral prospecting and mapping surveys and trenching and drilling, in order to ultimately support an NI 43-1010 compliant Mineral Resource Estimate.

River Valley Phase Three

The Company’s management and technical team are finalizing plans for a phase three program at River Valley. This phase will focus on the project’s rhodium potential and an announcement outlining our plans is forthcoming

Additional activities planned for Q4 regarding River Valley include environmental baseline studies, archaeological assessments, and development of new exploration targets for field validation and testing in 2021.

The environmental baseline studies will involve a second round of surface water quality sampling and flow measurement. For the Archaeological work, a stage 2 assessment will be completed in areas adjacent to selected water bodies and streams.

Assay Procedures & QA/QC

The 2020 Phase 1 drilling was completed by Jacob & Samuel Drilling Ltd. of Sudbury, Ontario under the supervision of NAM geologists. The drill core samples were sent to the SGS Canada Inc. Laboratory in Lakefield, Ontario for sample preparation and assay analyses. The preparation involved crushing of 3 kg of each sample to 90% passing 2 mm, and then pulverizing 0.5 kg to 85% passing 75 um. Palladium, Platinum and Gold were assayed by fire assay with ICP-AES finish (GE-FAI313). Copper, Nickel and 32 additional metals were assayed by two acid digestion and ICP-OES finish (GE-ICP14B). Blanks and blind certified standard samples were submitted at regular intervals for assay with the core samples as part of NAM’s rigorous Quality Assurance/Quality Control program.

St-Georges Eco-Mining $SX.ca $SXOOF: First Hole Completed at Thor Gold Project $NNX.ca $OM.ca $ICM.ca

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 9:10 AM on Tuesday, September 15th, 2020
  • Completed its first reverse circulation drill hole at the Thor project in the vicinity of Reykjavik in Iceland
  • The hole was positioned to test a previous surface sample that assayed 37.4 g/t gold and 69.3 g/t silver
  • The hole was successfully ended at 124 meters

Reykjavik – September 15, 2020 – St-Georges Eco-Mining Corp. (CSE:SX) (CNSX:SX.CN) (OTC:SXOOF) (FSE:85G1) is pleased to disclose that it has completed its first reverse circulation drill hole at the Thor project in the vicinity of Reykjavik in Iceland. The hole was positioned to test a previous surface sample that assayed 37.4 g/t gold and 69.3 g/t silver. The hole was successfully ended at 124 meters.

The exploration team lead by Pr Helen Salmon and supported by Herb Duerr and lead field geologist Gary McLearn, had identified earlier in August a new target zone outside the historically explored area following the grab sample results from sample 008 that yielded 69.3 g/t silver, 0.216% Copper & 37.4 g/t Gold. (See Company’s Press Release from August 21, 2020).

Because of high grades in past mining and the presence of visible gold in past work, a decision to sample the hole on 30 cm intervals was made by management. Our contract geologist may have observed visible grains of gold and possible accessory silver minerals near the bottom of the hole. As such, management has decided to do a standard 50 assay ton fire assay with atomic absorption finish for both gold and silver. Any samples assaying over 0.8 g/t gold will be automatically reassayed. If the samples are inconsistent, the lab will be instructed to do metal screening for particulate gold on reject material.

The current surface exploration campaign conducted one drill hole via reverse circulation using a standard hammer drill bit of 5.5 inches (~14 cm) in size. The drilling was conducted under the constant supervision of the Company’s field geologist, and all the material of every 30cm of depth was collected in plastic buckets sealed, identified with a code, and carried to St-Georges’ secure warehousing facilities in Reykjavik. From there, the geologists will prepare a representative sample for every bucket. Based on the visual analysis conducted while logging the material so far, the Company expects to send over 400 samples to be assayed to ALS Global Laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025 accredited) in Loughrea, Ireland. The Company intends to request a rush treatment for the assay of these samples.

The hole completed went from surface to a depth of 124 meters on an azimuth of 110 degrees. The drill rig cased the hole to 2 meters depth encountering approximately 1.5 meters of overburden at the surface. The mineralization encountered is compatible with the type often favorable for gold on the Thor project consisting of quartz veining adjacent to basalt with apparent abundant pyrite and accessory sulphides. Visible gold and silver may have been identified in the field by the Company’s field geologist. These sections are still being logged and sampled and prepared to be sent to the laboratory. See Figures 1, 2 & 3.

St-Georges’ President & CEO, Vilhjalmur Thor Vilhjalmsson, commented: “(…) We are encouraged by the current pace of the exploration work on the Thor Gold Project. The team has worked with the constraints of the COVID-19 quarantine and additional precautions imposed by the new government regulations, and still ended-up delivering within the aggressive target dates we had put forward (…) We are particularly pleased with the field team led by Gary. We have given the team much leeway and trusted their professional expertise. Gary took a bold decision in choosing an underexplored location for the only deeper drill hole we were authorized for to date under our agreement with Melmis. For what we know so far, it was worth the risk (…) we expect to close the transaction with Melmis this month, and we will keep the drilling contractor busy for the foreseeable future on the Thor Gold Project (…)”.

About Thor Gold

The Thormodsdalur Gold Project is located about 20km east of the city center of Reykjavik and south-east of the Lake Hafravatn. The project was discovered in 1908. The property produced a gold concentrate from 1911 to 1925, which shipped to Germany for processing. Over 300 meters of tunnels explored and mined one or more quartz veins and wall rock below open cuts at the surface.

Studies between 1996 and 2013 identified the project mineralization as a low sulfidation system hosted by basic to intermediate flows of Pliocene to Miocene age. The host contains banded chalcedony and ginguro within a fault zone up to 5 meters in width. To date, the identified gold trend has a known strike length of 700 meters determined by drill intercepts. Petrographic analysis of the vein material identified gold occurring in its free form and as part of an assemblage with pyrite and chalcopyrite. Petrographic and XRD studies show an evolution of the vein system from the zeolite assemblage to quartz-adularia and lastly, to minor calcite.

Thirty-two holes have been drilled within the license area, for a total of 2439 meters. Gold values vary from less than 0.5 g/t to a maximum of 415 g/t. (These values were obtained from selected random intervals and cannot be construed to be representative of any particular thickness or overall length.) Historically, the best intercepts from the diamond drilling are 33.5m of 8.0 g/t Au (true thickness) and 5.2m of 35.4 g/t Au (true thickness).

Gary McLearn, A professional geoscientist (Ontario APGO #2900) and an Independent Qualified Person as defined by National Instrument 43-101, has prepared, supervised the preparation or approved the scientific and technical disclosure in the news release.

Investing in Palladium – Everything You Need to Know

  • Auto Industry Demand – This is by far the number one influence on the prices of palladium around the world
  • Geopolitical Concerns – This factor can be active on a number of fronts for palladium and is something you should investigate prior to investing
  • Substitution – Substituting palladium for other metals within the auto industry is something which is coming under and increasing amount of scrutiny

By: Anthony Gallagher

Why Invest in Palladium?

Investing in precious metals you would be forgiven for putting a very heavy focus on the popular names in the sector. Trading in gold and silver obviously attracts much more attention in this area, mainly due to the general level of awareness that most people have around these very common market choices. There are other precious metals that are definitely worth investing in though. One of these which is often forgotten about by retail traders, is palladium. Despite the fact this precious metal has grown strongly in recent years, and has displayed gains of more than 1,000% since 2008, it is often left aside by investors focused on the higher volume gold and silver markets.

Here we will show you what the palladium market is all about, how you can get into trading this precious metal, and why it may be a great addition to your portfolio.

The Basics – What Drives Palladium Prices?

At the present time, palladium is trading higher than gold, with both at record high points. This has shone a light on both like never before. So, what are the main factors which have driven the prices of palladium to put them at higher levels even than gold? Here are a few major ones to consider:

Auto Industry Demand – This is by far the number one influence on the prices of palladium around the world. The auto industry accounts for around three quarters of the global demand for palladium. This is due to the fact that palladium is a key component in the manufacturing of catalytic converters. This, and particularly the demand for vehicles in large markets like the US and China have a huge bearing on the price of palladium.

Geopolitical Concerns – This factor can be active on a number of fronts for palladium and is something you should investigate prior to investing. Much of the world’s palladium supply comes from Russia, and South Africa. This accounts for about 80% of the total supply worldwide. With that said, any interruptions to this supply or process, be it in the form of sanctions as Russia sometimes deals with, or power supply problems, can cause a fluctuation in prices.

Substitution – Substituting palladium for other metals within the auto industry is something which is coming under and increasing amount of scrutiny. This is in large due to the high price of palladium, and also the fact that a number of substitutes, including platinum can be used. With that in mind though, platinum is not a direct substitute that can be easily used, so car makers are still largely reliant on palladium.

US Dollar Strength – The US Dollar forex market is going through a tough time currently. This weakening dollar can certainly have an impact on palladium prices as it does on other precious metals, though the reasoning behind it may be different. Palladium is typically purchased from suppliers in US Dollars. Any downward movement in the Dollar has potential to act as a disincentive top suppliers. This can reduce the supply of the precious metal which in turn can lead to an upward price movement.

Ways to Invest in Palladium

Now that you know several of the key drivers behind the price of palladium, it puts you in a good position to get involved in buying and trading the market. There are several ways in which you can do this much trading gold or silver markets. The main points which will vary here are the liquidity, and how closely the investment is tied to the palladium price.

The most direct way to get involved in trading palladium is to purchase palladium bullion directly from a reputed mint or other trustworthy supply source. This physical purchase of the metal typically takes the form of coins, collectable coins, or bars of the metal which can be purchased at different weights. Naturally, this is absolutely tied to the palladium market prices, though you should be mindful that a small premium is generally added by the seller, and this can be a substantially more difficult palladium investment to resell quickly if the price changes.

Palladium stocks are another popular way to get involved in trading the market. This means buying stocks in palladium related companies through your broker. They are typically very closely connected to the demand and price for palladium, though you also have to be careful to understand the key metrics of the individual company performance too. If you are looking for an even higher volume market, you may choose to trade palladium options or futures contracts. These can be higher risk, but are certainly the most liquid in terms of your ability to quickly trade palladium.

Finally, if you are seeking a very well-balanced way to invest in palladium, ETFs may be a good choice for you. There are essentially baskets of stocks which you can invest in at one collective price. Investing in a thematic ETF related to palladium will give you good exposure to many of the main players in the sector, and should also hedge your risk to a certain extent if the prices do fall. These ETFs can often pay a healthy dividend too.

Who Should Invest in Palladium?

Although palladium is now at a higher price point than gold, it is still very much an investment that any type of trader can make. Like other precious metal investments, it is something you can use to add great diversity to your portfolio. It is also becoming very accessible to all retail traders thanks to being on offer from many of the top online brokers.

Your investment in palladium really depends on your risk profile. This will determine which method of palladium investment may be most suitable for you. If you are willing to take more risk and can withstand a degree of volatility, you may consider options, or futures, while a more conservative approach would be an investment in ETFs or certain index funds. With the growth in demand and price though, it is clear that more and more traders are becoming aware of the potential within trading palladium as much as other precious metals.

The gold rush for palladium is on

Gold bugs bet on palladium

  • Palladium’s price growth has been double the growth of the price of gold
  • That’s because demand continues to grow with global supply unable to keep up
  • This decade, production of palladium has been less than demand for eight consecutive years

We have all heard of the spectacular rise in the price of gold and have been astounded as it blasted through $2,000, setting all-time highs. But what other precious metal has left gold in its (gold) dust?

Hint – it’s one of the PGMs (that’s Platinum-Group Metals) and no, it’s not platinum. PGMs are named because of their affiliation to platinum, but except for (possibly) iridium, most investors have never really heard of them. Ruthenium? Rhodium? Osmium? Also PGMs.

OK, just give up – the mystery metal is palladium (symbol Pd, atomic number 46). And this is going to surprise you!

Palladium is primarily mined in Russia and South Africa, although it can always be found wherever other PGMs are mined, including Montana and Ontario, and may also be affiliated with nickel mining. It is a soft, slivery-white metal. It can be rolled out as thin as 1/250,000 of an inch and is used in electronics, dentistry and jewelry, and transportation.

Palladium’s price growth has been double the growth of the price of gold – 2 year chart

You can see it – palladium’s price growth has been double the growth of the price of gold. That’s because demand continues to grow with global supply unable to keep up. This decade, production of palladium has been less than demand for eight consecutive years.

Palladium is primarily a transportation metal, but not how you think. People think exotic or precious metals and they automatically think electric vehicles (EVs). Palladium is already in your car or SUV, but not for electronics. It’s in your catalytic converter.

It’s in your catalytic converter. The automotive sector currently consumes as much as 80% of global production of palladium, of which approximately 70+% comes from Russia and South Africa. As the world continues to demand cleaner air, regulations on exhaust emissions are tightening and auto manufacturers are going to have to use more of the metal.

Even with increasing EV sales, the demand for palladium is not expected to decrease. The design of current catalytic converters cannot simply replace palladium with more readily available platinum as they would have to be redesigned to accommodate the different chemistry of platinum. Diesel-powered vehicles can use platinum in the catalytic converters, but gasoline powered vehicles are currently restricted to palladium. Research indicates that a number of technological advances are required before platinum can replace palladium in the exhaust system. The growing market for hybrid cars is going to see global demand for palladium continue to outstrip supply. In addition, speculators and ETFs are also playing in the space, causing price volatility and supporting the metal’s price trending higher.

So, the bull market for palladium is expected to continue. Mineral exploration companies targeting PGMs will be able to capitalize on the current market excitement, making this a great time to invest in well managed, properly capitalized companies. And especially given the predominance of Russia (not particularly friendly to the western world) and South Africa, any PGM exploration company in friendly and PGM-rich countries is going to have a lot of market attention.

Thor Gold Riverbed – St. George Icelandic Gold Exploration Update $SX $SX.ca $SXOOF

Posted by AGORACOM at 11:23 AM on Monday, August 24th, 2020

St-Georges Eco-Mining Corp. (CSE:SX) (CNSX:SX.CN) (OTC:SXOOF) (FSE:85G1)is pleased to release the initial fire assays results from the preliminary surface exploration campaign conducted on the Thor Gold Project in order to prepare this summer’s shallow drilling campaign.

The Company’s exploration team collected grab samples from the dry riverbed on both sides of the river running to the west of the historical work areas (See Fig 1.) A total of eight samples were cut from the outcrops.

Figure 1. Project historical work locations and current targeted area in Red.

All grab samples have shown the presence of gold with assays results ranging from 0.001 g/t to 37.4 g/t.

The grab samples collected from the outcrop are, by nature, selected samples and are not necessarily representative of the mineralization hosted on the property.

Three of the grab samples located between 50 and 150 meters of the historical workings are deemed significant enough to warrant some adjustment to the previously planned shallow drilling grid for this summer’s campaign. These grab samples yielded the following results (Table 1):

Quality Control

Samples were collected and bagged by the SX geological team and transported in secure bags directly from the site to Iceland Resources’ secured warehouse facilities in Keflavik. From there, two Q/C blank samples were added to the other eight samples, and the batch traveled by plane to ALS Global Laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025 accredited) in Loughrea, Ireland. All samples were tested using four acid trace analysis (ME-ICP61). Samples that yielded precious metals content in excess of 10 ppm were analyzed a second time via gravity separation and fire assay finish.

About Thor Gold

The Thormodsdalur Gold Project is located about 20km east of the city center of Reykjavik and south-east of Lake Hafravatn. The project was discovered in 1908. The property produced a gold concentrate from 1911 to 1925, which was shipped to Germany for processing. Over 300 meters of tunnels explored and mined one or more quartz veins and wall rock below open cuts at the surface.

Studies between 1996 and 2013 identified the project mineralization as a low sulfidation system hosted by basic to intermediate flows of Pliocene to Miocene age. The host contains banded chalcedony and ginguro within a fault zone up to five meters in width. To date, the identified gold trend has a known strike length of 700 meters determined by drill intercepts. Petrographic analysis of the vein material identified gold occurring in its free form and as part of an assemblage with pyrite and chalcopyrite. Petrographic and XRD studies show an evolution of the vein system from the zeolite assemblage to quartz-adularia and, lastly, to minor calcite.

Thirty-two holes have been drilled within the license area, for a total of 2439 meters. Gold values vary from less than 0.5 g/t to a maximum of 415 g/t. (These values were obtained from selected random intervals and cannot be construed to be representative of any particular thickness or overall length.) The best intercepts from the diamond drilling are 33.5m of 8.0 g/t Au (true thickness) and 5.2m of 35.4 g/t Au (true thickness).
