  • The tech that underpins the biggest cryptocurrency in the world is branching out
  • blockchain gives professionals a means to securely store data in ordered records that update in real time
  • blockchain is revolutionising the way vital information is stored and accessed

In 2017 we are not short of new concepts claiming to be innovations in technology and the next big thing. Despite that, few have made as much of an impact as blockchain. Often described as a distributed database, blockchain gives professionals a means to securely store data in ordered records that update in real time. While it is often overshadowed in the news by the technology it powers, such as Bitcoin, blockchain is revolutionising the way vital information is stored and accessed.

The rise of cryptocurrencies has allowed blockchain technology to flourish, and its role as a public ledger is proving fundamental to the success of Bitcoin. The peer-to-peer network and timestamping server that makes up Bitcoin’s blockchain allows it to track every transaction on the currency in real time. Digital currencies simply wouldn’t work without it.

New use cases

Blockchain first emerged as a ledger for Bitcoin in 2008, yet the original creator of the technology remains unknown. The individual widely cited as its creator is Satoshi Nakamoto, yet this is likely a pseudonym and possibly refers to more than one person.

It was primarily introduced to fix the issue of ‘double-spending’, a technical flaw that allowed people to transfer the same digital tokens multiple times. Yet it also allowed for a decentralised currency, free from government oversight and layers of bureaucracy.

Although it’s early years were tied to Bitcoin, it became quickly apparent that a public ledger could be applied to many other industries. It’s incredibly secure, fault tolerant systems are able to store data in a decentralised way, providing a ‘neutral’ place to house highly sensitive data, such as identity information and insurance records.

The rise of blocks

As the name suggests, Blockchain systems are organised into ‘blocks’, each one carrying a unique timestamp that can be linked back to an older block. That’s incredibly useful for industries where it’s essential to be able to track information by time and event.

Another great thing about blockchains is that they’re often highly resistant to editing. This means that once data has been recorded in a block, it can’t be retroactively changed. While normally this would be frustrating, it provides a means to accurately verify transactions. Creators of Blockchains are also able to configure them to trigger transactions automatically, increasing the efficiency and accuracy at which data is processed.

More affordable and efficient

As a decentralised type of public ledger, blockchains are commonly operated through thousands of global computers. Thanks to this, users are able to organise and audit information quickly and efficiently. In most scenarios, people running and using blockchain systems take collaborative approaches and may have common aims.

If you work in the financial services sector, for example, your main intention is to ensure that you have a safe, secure way to store and process customer transactions. A physical file room may have dominated in the past, but with technology like blockchain, you can process timely data more accurately.

Blockchain could also bode for more affordable financial processes and diminish the chance of fraudulent activity at the same time. Such systems are mainly in the experimental phase right now, but they’re always advancing and we’ll no doubt see more use cases come to light in the foreseeable future.

Public vs private

Much like the field of cloud computing, the function and implementation of blockchain can vary significantly depending on whether it’s designed to be public or private. The primary distinction between these types comes down to who can access a system.

Public

Public blockchains operate a shared network that allows anyone to maintain the ledger and participate in the execution of blockchain protocol – in other words, authorise the creation of blocks. It’s essential for services such as Bitcoin, which operates the largest public blockchain, as it needs to encourage as many users as possible to its ledger to ensure the currency grows.

Public blockchains are considered entirely decentralised, but in order to maintain trust, they typically employ economic incentives, such as cryptocurrencies, and cryptographic verification. This verification process requires every user, or ‘node’, to solve increasingly complex and resource intensive problems known as a ‘proof of work’, in order to stay in sync.

This means public blockchains often require immense computational power to maintain the ledger, which only worsens as more nodes are added, and predicting how much that will increase is difficult. Given the number of voices in the community, it’s also incredibly difficult to reach a consensus on any technical changes to a public blockchain – as demonstrated by Bitcoin’s two recent hard forks.

Private

Private blockchains arguably go against the spirit of the original concept. They’re entirely centralised within an organisation and enforce strict write permissions to only authorised users, although this may be in the form of existing members authorising a new entrant, or a regulatory body granting access.

They’re far more useful to a business over a shared public ledger, as they’re able to implement the technology into areas that require data to be hidden. They also typically offer permissioned based access, so that only those participating in a transaction will be able to see it recorded on the blockchain.

Having fewer users on the blockchain means transactions are typically much cheaper, as they require only a fraction of the computational power to fully verify. That smaller user base also ensures that any faults can be fixed almost immediately, and any technological improvements can be approved and implemented at a pace that fits the business.

Glacier Lake $GLI.ca Announces New Discovery at Silver Vista Hinting at Pollymetallic System $JAX.ca $AMI.ca $GTT.ca

Posted by AGORACOM at 7:43 AM on Thursday, November 2nd, 2017

  • New Discovery is called the “Golden Vista Zone”
  • Golden Vista Zone is 22 km northwest of the principal target, the “MR” copper-silver prospect
  • 2cm massive pyrite-galena stringer within siliceous, altered mineralized sediments
  • 16.90 grams per tonne gold (g/t Au), 196.0 g/t (Ag) silver, 12.6 percent (%) lead (Pb), 11.9 percent zinc (Zn)

Glacier Lake Resources Inc. (TSXV:GLI) (“Glacier” or the “Company”) is pleased to report multiple new mineral showings in an area designated as the “Golden Vista Zone”, located on the Silver Vista property, near Smithers, B.C. The highlight is an outcrop select grab sample including a 2 centimetre massive pyrite-galena stringer within siliceous, altered mineralized sediments, returning 16.90 grams per tonne gold (g/t Au), 196.0 g/t (Ag) silver, 12.6 percent (%) lead (Pb), 11.9 percent zinc (Zn).  Investors are cautioned that these samples are selective samples and are not necessarily representative of the mineralization hosted on the property.

The Golden Vista Zone area is approximately 22 kilometers northwest of the principal target, the “MR” copper-silver prospect. Highlights of the recent Golden Vista discoveries include:

  • The mineral showings are in a minimally explored area of the property, with no previously known mineral showings or historic prospects. The new showings resulted from a limited prospecting-geological mapping program, involving a 3-4-person crew, serviced by helicopter from Smithers. In total 28 grab rock samples were taken from outcrop or subcrop locations while prospecting, and 53 soils samples were taken.
  • Target GV-2 is located in a steeply incised stream drainage and comprises three outcrop grab samples, hosting semi-massive sulphides (pyrite-galena) in altered, siliceous, gossanous sediments. Sample #02681 returned 5.37 g/t Au, 110.0 g/t Ag, 5.05 % Pb, and 11.60 % Zn from a pyrite-galena gossan. Sample #02681 assayed 16.90 g/t Au, 196.0 g/t Ag, 12.60% Pb and 11.90% Zn from a 2 cm massive sulfide vein. Sample #16079 is comprised of coarse grained galena in a highly silicified sedimentary unit, which returned 4.47 g/t Au, 34.00 g/t Ag, 1.72% Pb, and 5.02% Zn. The GV-2 zone is a high priority target for follow-up.
  • Target GV-1 was investigated to confirm gold-and-silver soil anomalies from wide spaced (+/- 300 meter spacing) reconnaissance soil sampling completed in 2012-2013, in an area of rugged topography. Soil sample #2668 from this location returned 0.34 g/t Au, 15.45 g/t Ag, 0.29% Pb, and 0.26% Zn. Soil sample #2669, nearby returned 1.68 g/t Au, 28.90 g/t Ag, 0.44% Pb, and 0.36% Zn. Outcrop rock samples from the same location of altered, gossanous sediments returned anomalous gold values of 0.141 g/t Au and 0.118 g/t Au, suggestive that the source of the soil geochemical anomalies may be further up-slope.
  • The GV-1 target alteration zone was projected to the south-east and an outcrop location approximately 350 meters along strike was discovered comprising siliceous, moderately gossanous sediments. Three chip samples were taken at this location, with anomalous gold (0.04, 0.18 and 0.26 g/t Au), and silver, (4.6, 7.1, and 16.3 g/t Ag), and strongly anomalous lead (0.65, 0.12, and 1.11% Pb). These anomalous values and associated metals (arsenic, antimony and mercury) are supportive of structural continuity of the GV-1 alteration/mineralized zones.
  • Target GV-4 was tested by three soil samples with anomalous gold values. Soil sample #16082 returned the highest gold-in-soil value of the fall survey, with 2.75 g/t Au, 3.4 g/t Ag, and 781 ppm (parts per million) Pb.
  • Three other targets are defined by anomalous soil and/or rock geochemistry in the Golden Vista area.  Outcrop exposure is modest and soil sampling remains an effective tool to define buried targets. The Golden Visa discoveries are in an area 1,400 meters by 1,000 meters. Several anomalous gold-in-soil anomalies were not visited during the recent program.
  • A preliminary analysis of the soil and rock geochemistry suggest that the Golden Vista mineralization is representative of an enhanced gold- silver-lead-zinc system. Silver values in the soils are enriched and widespread, with more than 37% of the soil samples returning +1.0 g/t Ag in the soils. The 90% percentile of the 53 soil samples is 0.11 g/t Au, 3.2 g/t Ag and 880 ppm lead (Pb).

Saf Dhillon, President/CEO and Director of Glacier Lake Resources Inc. reports that, “The results of our recent reconnaissance program have exceeded our expectations, with the discovery of multiple showings returning significant precious and base metals. These new showings indicate an exciting new style of mineralization on the Silver Vista property. While our short-term focus will be on a Phase 1 drill program to test the zone of high-grade copper and silver mineralization at the “MR” area, the Golden Vista zones will be an important exploration target for next summer’s field season.”

All samples from the Golden Vista surface program were sent to the ALS Minerals Ltd. North Vancouver, BC laboratory, an 17025:2005 certified facility. All samples were collected by Exploration Facilitation Unlimited Inc. personnel and securely stored until delivery to ALS Minerals. At this early stage of exploration, Glacier Lake is relying on the certified standards utilized by ALS Minerals as part of it analysis protocols. No QA/QC anomalies were noted in the analyses.

The aggregate value of all cryptocurrencies hit a record high of around $184-billion on Wednesday, according to industry website Coinmarketcap, making their reported market value worth around the same as that of Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley combined.

The new peak came as the biggest and best-known cryptocurrency, bitcoin, hit a record high of more than $6,500 . That took its own “market cap” – its price multiplied by the number of coins that have been released into circulation – to a record high just shy of $110-billion.

The latest surge in bitcoin – which has seen an eye-watering increase of almost 800 per cent in the past 12 months – was driven by news on Tuesday that CME Group, the world’s largest derivative exchange operator, would launch bitcoin futures in the fourth quarter of the year.

The announcement was seen as a major step in the digital currency’s path toward legitimacy and mainstream financial adoption.

The second-most valuable cryptocurrency Ether – sometimes known as “Ethereum”, after the project behind it – was trading slightly down on the day at $302 per coin, having hit a record high of more than $410 in June.

T3 Becomes 2nd New Footwall #Discovery and Drilling Continues to Intersect #PGM from the Pine Zone at the River Valley Platinum Group Metals Project $NAM.ca #Platinum #Palladium

Posted by AGORACOM-JC at 9:36 AM on Tuesday, October 31st, 2017

New age large

  • Drilling continues to encounter PGM mineralization in the Pine Zone of the River Valley PGM Deposit
  • Borehole PL-17-06 intersects 22m of 1.51.g/t Pd+Pt+Au, including 10m at 2.58 g/t, and 3m of 3.95 g/t.
  • T3 becomes 2nd footwall discovery with T4 to T9 earmarked for future footwall exploration (Figure 2)
  • Updated NI 43-101 to commence upon the announcement of final assays
  • River Valley is the Largest Undeveloped Primary PGM resource in Canada, with 3.9Moz PdEq in Measured Plus Indicated including an additional 1.2Moz PdEq in Inferred.

October 31st, 2017 Vancouver, Canada – New Age Metals Inc. (TSX.V: NAM; OTCQB: PAWEF; FSE: P7J.F) is pleased to announce the second batch of drill hole results from the 2017 drilling campaign. Drilling was focused on the T3 Zone and Pine Zone as a follow up of the 2015 and 2016 drilling at the River Valley PGM Deposit. The drill program is now complete and the company is waiting for the last batch of assays.

Harry Barry, Chairman/CEO states. “The purpose of the 2017 summer/fall exploration program was to focus on the footwall mineralization and recent IP geophysical targets from the Pine Zone to T3 (figure 1). The footwall mineralization is a new model as opposed to the historical contact mineralization model where the bulk of the resource had been identified, giving us further confidence that the project can be developed into an open pit mining operation”.

T3 Target Becomes 2nd Footwall Discovery

To date, 4 holes have been drilled in the T3 area which is approximately 1000m South from the top of the Pine Zone discovery. All 4 holes in the T3 area hit significant mineralization with borehole T3-17-04 (News Release September 20th, 2017) resulted in 28m of 2.45 g/t Pd+Pt+Au at 4m below surface, including 3m of 7.12 g/t. Within the same hole, mineralization was also intersected at 24m below surface with an additional 6m of 4.06 g/t Pd+Pt+Au, and at 37m below surface with another zone of 4m at 3.30 g/t.

Upon completion of this program, further holes will be delineated for additional drilling on the T3 discovery as the results are reviewed. The new exploration model of footwall mineralization has yet to be tested further south of T3, between T3 and T9 (figure 1), and these targets equate to a small portion of the 16km of strike length of the main zone. Drilling of the T3 continues to show PGM (Pd+Pt+Au) mineralization in the footwall of the main River Valley PGM Deposit and therefore increasing the amount of known PGM mineralization in this new area.

Pine Zone

The Pine Zone was the first of numerous newly discovered PGM zones within the district-scale River Valley PGM Project. The Pine Zone is located east of the main River Valley Deposit in an area previously not known for mineralization. The 2016 drill program (figure 2) confirmed the higher-grade, near-surface PGM discovery made in the 2015 drill program (figure 2) and highlighted the continuity of the PGM mineralization into the footwall. The Pine Zone remains open along strike and at depth.

Assay Procedures and QAQC

The drilling was undertaken by Jacob & Samuel Drilling Ltd. of Sudbury, Ontario under the supervision of a NAM geologist. The drill core samples were sent to the SGS Canada Inc. Laboratory in Lakefield, Ontario for sample preparation and assay analyses. The preparation involved crushing of 3kg of each sample to 90% passing 2mm, and then pulverizing 0.5kg to 85% passing 75um. Palladium, Platinum and Gold were assayed by fire assay with ICP-AES finish (GE-FAI313). Copper, Nickel and 32 additional metals were assayed by two acid digestion and ICP-OES finish (GE-ICP14B). Blanks and blind certified standard samples were submitted at regular intervals for assay with the core samples as part of NAM’s quality control program.

Future Activity

WSP Canada (News Release: Sept 7th, 2017) will be conducting the updated resource calculation and model for the River Valley PGM Deposit. This will incorporate the new findings and interpretations. The company plans to initialize a Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) Report in the future with WSP Canada. In-house recommendations will be compiled to delineate future work upon completion of the 2017 field program with future work on Pine Zone, T3, and new un-explored footwall targets.

To date an approximate 140,659m (461,480ft) in 628 holes have been conducted by the company and its past major joint venture partners to test the PGM mineralization of the River Valley PGM Deposit. Several 43-101 compliant resource estimates have previously been generated for the deposit through the development phases. The River Valley Deposit present resource, with approximately 3.9 PdEq ounces in Measured Plus Indicated mineral resources and near-surface mineralization covers over 16km of continuous strike length.

The Company will continue to update investors as the drill results are received.

ABOUT NAM’S PGM DIVISION

NAM’s flagship project is its 100% owned River Valley PGM Project (NAM Website – River Valley Project) in the Sudbury Mining District of Northern Ontario (100 km east of Sudbury, Ontario). Presently the River Valley Project is Canada’s largest primary undeveloped PGM deposit with Measured + Indicated resources of 91 million tonnes @ 0.58 g/t Palladium, 0.22 g/t Platinum, 0.04 g/t Gold, at a cut-off grade of 0.8 g/t PdEq for 2,463,000 ounces PGM plus Gold. This equates to 3,942,910 PdEq ounces. The River Valley PGM-Copper-Nickel Sulphide mineralized zones remains open to expansion. The company has recently completed a drill program on the Pine and T3 Zones.

In 2016, the Company acquired the River Valley extension property from Mustang Minerals which added approximately 4 kilometres to the project’s mineralized strike length to the southern portion of the intrusion.

ABOUT NAM’S LITHIUM DIVISION

The Company has five pegmatite hosted Lithium Projects in the Winnipeg River Pegmatite Field, located in SE Manitoba. Three of the projects are drill ready. This Pegmatite Field hosts the world class Tanco Pegmatite that has been mined for Tantalum, Cesium and Spodumene (one of the primary Lithium ore minerals) in varying capacities, since 1969. NAM’s Lithium Projects are strategically situated in this prolific Pegmatite Field. Presently, NAM is the largest mineral claim holder in the Winnipeg River Pegmatite Field and is seeking JV partners to further develop the company’s Li division.

“We are pleased to continue to show double digit percent quarter-over-quarter growth. This quarter we attained 15% growth despite taking steps to restrict access to content of a mature nature on the Android platform. The changes resulted in a predictable temporary decline in user sessions for that platform, but was necessary for us to continue to pursue our long-term business objectives, namely providing the foundation for a platform of mass adoption. The change is behind us and continued growth is ahead,” said Mark Itwaru, CEO of the Company.

In June 2017 the Company made a strategic decision to further restrict access to content of a mature nature on the Android app. June 2017 was the first month of Q2 2017. These changes had a temporary impact on Android traffic levels including User Sessions and Licensing Revenues derived from the Android app. The Company made almost identical changes to the iOS app in January 2017. The effects of the changes on the Android user base were similar to those observed on the iOS user base following the iOS change. The decrease in User Sessions from the Android change was isolated to the Android app and the bounce back period was similar to that of the January 2017 iOS change.
